Meghan Markle Says It’s Unsafe For Her to Read News Headlines
Meghan Markle is one of the most famous people in the world. Before marrying Prince Harry, Meghan was well-known but was never subject to the kind of scrutiny and media attention that she is now. She admitted in the past that she specifically stays off of Twitter because she feels it’s “safer” that way — and she doesn’t read the newspapers. Here’s why.

The media has criticized Meghan’s every move since she joined the royal family
Meghan was no stranger to cameras on her prior to meeting Harry. She was the star of the USA show Suits, and she had made quite a name for herself on the small screen. But nothing could have prepared her for what would come when she began dating the Queen Elizabeth’s grandson. Harry has always opposed the press, believing the media are the people responsible for his mother’s death, and he’s done everything he can to protect Meghan. But still, the press has found a way to bash her in nearly every headline. Meghan Markle gave birth to her son recently, and it seemed to be the first time the duchess was actually shed in a positive light.
The Duchess has gotten plenty of threats from those who dislike her
When Harry and Meghan first started dating, people would send the duchess death threats. And the death threats only got more serious once the couple started planning their wedding. People even made terroristic threats toward the couple, suggesting there could be a massive attack at their May 2018 ceremony. Thankfully, everything ran smoothly and everyone stayed safe, but it’s made Meghan realize just how important the royal family is and the amount of people who focus on them.
Meghan doesn’t read news headlines because it’s ‘safer’ that way
When Anne McElvoy, senior editor of The Economist, asked Meghan if she checks Twitter, the duchess said she absolutely does not. “No, sorry no,” she said. “For me that’s my personal preference.” Meghan then went on to say that she doesn’t read anything in the news. “It’s much safer that way,” she said. If Meghan read all of the negative news stories and social media comments, she’d be opened up to the constant scrutiny and possibly become more paranoid about the people attacking her. Right now, she’s focused on her marriage, and now a new baby, and doesn’t have time for the drama that comes with the headlines.
She said both positive and negative media attention is just ‘noise’ these days
Meghan went on to say that any of her media attention, either positive or negative, is just “noise.” The duchess said she prefers to focus on the real cause (referring to feminism). “I think positive or negative, it can all sort of just feel like noise to a certain extent these days,” the duchess said during the interview. The interview came shortly after the royal family created new guidelines for social media as a way to protect the family members — and specifically as a way to halt some of the negativity toward the Duchess of Sussex. When Meghan gave birth to her son, the press finally appeared to shed the duchess in a positive light. Let’s hope the media storm dies down now that Meghan and Harry are new parents.
