Meghan Markle ‘Stepped Into a Snake Pit’ Just Like Princess Diana

Living life in the public eye is difficult, but being a member of the royal family takes it to a whole new level. The royals are criticized even more than Hollywood celebrities and are constantly being followed by swarms of photographers just hoping to get the perfect picture. It can’t be easy when your life is practically an open book, and everyone from the news media to members of the public are constantly posting opinions online regarding everything that you do. For the royals, this is a harsh reality.

Those who were born into royalty, such as Princes William and Prince Harry, are most likely used to all of the overwhelming attention that they receive on a daily basis. Although, it doesn’t always mean that they like it.

For those such as Markle, who joined the family as an outsider, royal life can take some getting serious used to. It has been over a year since Prince Harry and Markle officially became the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Did Markle ‘step into a snake pit’ just like Princess Diana did?

Princess Diana had a rough time adjusting to royal life

In her own words: "Not a moment to breathe. I find the endless receptions [on the first royal tour to Australia in 1983] quite difficult, as people tend to ask extraordinarily personal questions. When trying to drag a sentence out [from children chewing bubble gum], all we actually see is a bright pink thing, turning round and round, like a washing machine inside! I am finding it very difficult to cope with the pressures of being the Princess of Wales. I have learnt a lot in the last few months, and feel I am doing my job better now than I was before. I have matured a lot recently and got used to coping with things. But when they [the press] write something horrible, I get a horrible feeling right here… in my chest."

Princess Diana may have spent years being married to the future king, but that doesn’t mean that she felt that she was welcomed into the royal family with open arms. According to The Sun, Princess Diana felt somewhat alienated by the family. It seems that she never really got used to being as famous as she actually was, and she often described being a princess as feeling “overwhelming”.

It is difficult to join the royal family as an outsider

Just like her late mother-in-law, Markle joined the royal family as an outsider. Suddenly, her life completely changed, and there was a long list of rules that she had to learn to follow at all times. Her style became much more conservative, she is no longer allowed to talk about her political opinions, and she must remember to curtsy to her grandmother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth. It seems that Markle is doing great in her new role as a duchess, although there were a few slip-ups along the way.

Meghan Markle has made some mistakes since becoming a royal

As the saying goes “practice makes perfect,” and Markle is well on her way! In her first year as a royal, however, there were some minor mishaps. According to News Australia, during Markle’s first outing with the queen, she was seen closing her own car door. And then, after the appearance, she asked her majesty who should get in the car first. In addition, she had a lavish New York City baby shower attended by her celebrity friends when she was expecting Archie. And at the premiere of the Lion King recently, Express reported she told singer Pharrell that “they don’t make it easy” when the two of them were talking.

Did Meghan Markle ‘step into a snake pit’ like Princess Diana?

It was pointed out on a British talk show that Markle’s new life as a royal is more difficult than she may have expected. According to The Sun, Richard Madeley said that she ‘stepped into a snake pit’ by marrying Prince Harry and that the public is seeing her differently than they did when the couple was first married. Markle seems to be holding her own and learning extremely quickly. While it is true that the duchess has experienced some difficult times in her first year in the royal spotlight, things are sure to get better from here. Surely Markle knows all about how Princess Diana felt like a royal and is taking the necessary steps to adjust to her new life.
