Meghan Markle Was in a ‘Straightjacket’ in the British Royal Family, Biographer Says
Meghan, Duchess, and Prince Harry are moving on with their lives two months after their explosive CBS interview with Oprah Winfrey. In the revealing interview, the Sussexes revealed the real reason they resigned from their duties in the British royal family. They explained that the royals left them out to dry when the British tabloids attacked Meghan with sexist and racist lies and rhetoric.
The pair explained that they were ignored or told to grit and bear it when they begged for help. They also detailed a shocking racist incident when an unnamed royal questioned their son Archie Harrison‘s skin tone. Prince Harry also revealed that he felt very let down by his father, Prince Charles in particular.
Now, one royal biographer says that Meghan‘s experience in the royal fold was like being in a straightjacket.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are frustrated with the British royal family
Though the Sussexes have maintained a good relationship with Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Harry returned to the U.K. in April 2021 for his grandfather, Prince Philip’s funeral, things are still tense between the Sussexes and the royals.
Prince Charles and Prince William are reportedly horrified that the CBS interview ever took place. Meanwhile, the Sussexes are also equally as frustrated with the royals for their lack of accountability.
“I think it’s frustrating for them to see that it’s a racial conversation about the Royal Family when all they wanted all along was for the royals to intervene and tell the press to stop with the unfair, inaccurate, false stories that definitely have a racial slant,” CBS This Morning’s Gayle King said. “And until you can acknowledge that, I think it’s going to be hard to move forward. But they both want to move forward with this. They want healing in this family. At the end of the day, it’s Harry’s family.”
Prince Harry doesn’t regret the tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey
Despite reports that suggest otherwise, it appears that Prince Harry has no regrets when it comes to the interview with Oprah. The prince, it appears, was ready to shake the table.
“He knew what he was doing,” royal biographer and expert Ingrid Seward told Page Six. “I can swear to you that, and he wanted to rock that boat. Quite why, I don’t understand, but he did want to. And then he did, and I don’t think he’s surprised by the repercussions or that he regrets it for a moment.”
The prince has been in the hot seat in the past as he was during his rebellious teen years. He also saw the ramifications of his mother, Princess Diana’s stunning interview with BBC. Therefore, it looks like he was mostly trying to get his family to see and understand things from his perspective.
Meghan Markle was in a ‘straightjacket’ in the British royal family
Meghan, who had a long career before marrying Prince Harry, had a terribly difficult time adjusting to royal life, and according to Seward, it was for a good reason.
“I think she had no idea she wouldn’t be able to say what she thought or wouldn’t be able to voice her opinion,” Seward explained. “That’s what she was used to all her life, and suddenly she’s in a straitjacket.”
Now it appears, with their work at Spotify and Netflix and their Archewell foundation, the duchess is thriving and speaking up for herself in the way she’d always meant to do.
