Meghan Markle’s Recent Video With Archie Tells Us a Lot About Her Parenting
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were only members of the royal family for less than a year of Archie’s life. Since the two announced their departure back in January, Archie has been across the pond in North America, where they’ve been able to give him their undivided attention. And Meghan and Harry’s recent birthday video with Archie speaks volumes about what Meghan is like as a parent.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle wanted to give Archie a better life
When Harry and Meghan made the decision to leave the royal family, they were motivated by several factors. The duke and duchess had had a very difficult time with the media, and they wanted a more stress-free life. (Specifically, Meghan’s reputation with the media caused her to have trouble developing a good relationship with the public.)
Harry and Meghan also had their son in mind when they chose to leave. Archie was not given a royal title when he was born, possibly foreshadowing their intent to step down all along. The two wanted to raise him as a private citizen. Harry wasn’t a fan of the spotlight growing up, and he wanted to give his son something better.
The two have kept their parenting style private
Not much is known about the way Harry and Meghan parent Archie. There have been a few videos of the two with their son, such as the moment they introduced him to the world, and when he joined them while in Africa. It’s clear they have a lot of love for their son, but other than that, the public hadn’t received a good look into the way the two care for him — until they released a video in honor of his first birthday.
Meghan’s recent video reading to Archie says a lot about her parenting
Meghan read a book to Archie in a video for the Save Our Stories campaign, a charitable initiative where celebrities read kids’ stories as a way of bringing awareness to children who don’t have meals during quarantine. Harry was behind the camera, but we got a glimpse into Meghan’s parenting style while she read Archie the book.
Archie knew how to turn pages, and for the most part, he seemed content reading. It’s clear that Meghan reads to him often; it was not just a one-time event for his birthday. Archie even tried to get her to read him a second book as the first one was nearing its end. Meghan also spoke to Archie encouragingly; her tone was energetic, and she seemed to have no trouble getting him to sit on her lap. (By the end, he was a bit fidgety, but that’s normal for babies.)
Meghan stayed focused while reading to him, which shows she clearly knows what she’s doing as a new mom and is a very hands-on parent. And when the story was over, Meghan and Harry both cheered, showing Archie some encouragement for completing the story. Raising a child can be equal parts exciting and daunting for new parents, but Archie’s response to sitting on his mother’s lap and his ability to understand how to turn pages to the story both show that Meghan and Harry are already teaching him valuable skills.
