Meghan Markle Was Allowed To Do This While Pregnant With Archie, While Kate Middleton Was Banned From Doing So
Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton have had to follow a lot of rules when it comes to raising their little ones, but there is one royal protocol that Markle was allowed to skip. The former Suits star welcomed her first child, Archie Harrison last spring, and threw a lavish baby shower before the birth. Baby showers are a common thing in the United States, but royal experts revealed that Middleton was not allowed to host a shower because it would have been viewed as “highly inappropriate.”
Kate Middleton banned from baby shower
Earlier this year, Markle flew to New York and celebrated the arrival of her son with an expensive baby shower. Multiple celebrities and close friends were invited to the event, which made headlines around the world.
While the Duke and Duchess of Sussex received a measure of backlash for the celebration, Middleton was reportedly banned from having a baby shower during all three of her pregnancies.
According to Express, the royal family does not allow baby showers because they view them as completely unnecessary. After all, there is nothing that the royals cannot get for themselves, so throwing a baby shower would be pointless.
“A lavish baby shower would be seen as highly inappropriate… there’s nothing they can’t go out and buy themselves,” Victoria Arbiter, an expert on the royals, explained.
There is also the protocol that prevents the royal family from accepting gifts, which is kind of the whole point of having a baby shower.
It is not clear why Meghan Markle was allowed to host a baby shower, but some sources believe that Middleton attempted to throw a party when she was pregnant with her first child, Prince George. The only difference is that her idea was completely shut down.
Did Middleton attempt to host a baby shower?
When Middleton was expecting her first with Prince William, rumors surfaced that her sister, Pippa Middleton, was planning on throwing her a grand baby shower. At the time, royal experts dismissed the reports and claimed that Middleton was not even entertaining the idea.
It is unclear if Middleton’s sister was seriously planning a shower or not, but Middleton ended up not having a part during all three of her pregnancies.
This could be chalked up to Middleton following the rules, though it is interesting that the royal family did not enforce those same restraints on Meghan Markle.
Instead, Markle was allowed to fly to New York and celebrate the birth of her baby with her closest friends.
The event, which allegedly cost over $150,000, featured some big names in Hollywood, including the former Suit star’s close friend, Serena Williams.
One reason Markle may have been allowed to have the shower is because it is a tradition in America. Unfortunately, the royals have not commented on the reports, so it is difficult to say for sure.
A look at Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle’s parenting styles
Baby showers aside, Middleton and Markle did similar things after welcoming their first child. This includes taking maternity leave following the birth and enjoying some quality time with their newborns.
Once they returned to their royal duties, both Duchesses went on a tour with their little one in tow, though there were some important differences in how they handled their respective outings.
After delivering Prince George, Middleton and Prince William took a tour of Australia and New Zealand. The trip happened nine months after the birth, which is around five months longer than Meghan Markle and Prince Harry waited to tour South Africa.
While Markle’s trip lasted ten days, Middleton was out of the country for a whopping 19 months, which is a long time to be traveling with a baby.
Another distinction between the tours is how the new mother’s handled public appearances. The only time we really got to see Markle’s son, Archie Harrison, was during their meeting with Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
Middleton, on the other hand, showed off Prince George during several outings, notably the family’s visit to the Sydney Zoo, where an adorable Prince George stole the show.
Both moms, however, made sure to spend as much time as possible with their sons, despite having obligations to fill on their own.
Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton have not commented on the reports surrounding the former’s baby shower.
