Meghan Markle’s Father Responds To Baby Archie’s Christening

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, was christened this past weekend. According to the couple’s Instagram, “family and the godparents of Archie” were in attendence. Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland, Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince Charlies, Camilla Parker-Bowles, and Princess Diana’s sisters Lady Jane Fellowes and Lady Sarah McCorquodale were all seen at the christening at Windsor Castle. A total of 25 guests were present.

“This morning, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor was christened in the Private Chapel at Windsor Castle at an intimate service officiated by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby,” reads the sussexroyal Instagram post. “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are so happy to share the joy of this day with members of the public who have been incredibly supportive since the birth of their son. They thank you for your kindness in welcoming their first born and celebrating this special moment.”

Meghan Markle’s father responds to not being invited to Archie’s christening

One family member who wasn’t in attendence, though, was Meghan’s father, Thomas Markle.

Thomas told The Daily Mail that he hadn’t been invited to Archie’s christening.

“I have been asked if I would have liked to have gone to Britain to see my new grandson being christened,” Thomas told TDM. “I was an altar boy at age 12, a confirmed member of the Queen’s church at age 14, and Archie is my new grandson, so of course I would have enjoyed being there for the blessing, wishing Archie and his parents health and happiness.”

The publication goes on to report that though Thomas was raised Anglican, Meghan wasn’t baptized as a child because her mother didn’t have the same religious beliefs. In fact, when Thomas and Ragland got married, their ceremony was held at the Self-Realization Fellowship Temple in Los Angeles, a temple known for following the teachings of guru Paramahansa Yogananda, who believes yoga and meditation can achieve spiritual enlightenment.

Meghan was baptized in the Church of England before she married Prince Harry.

Meghan Markle and Thomas Markle’s rocky history

The duchess and her father haven’t had the best of relationships for quite some time, but things got especially turbulent around her wedding to Prince Harry

Just before Meghan’s wedding last year, Thomas staged paparazzi photos of himself getting ready for his daughter’s wedding, despite never having been invited. When Prince Harry supposedly confronted his wife’s father over the phone about the photos, Thomas hung up on him

Thomas was also known for frequently talking to the press about the Sussexes (and his daughter specifically).

Meghan, in response, wrote a hand-written letter to her father asking him to stop speaking to tabloids–he eventually gave the letter to a tabloid because he felt aggrieved after several of Meghan’s friends spoke to the press about their complicated relationship.

It’s no surprise that Meghan didn’t invite her father to baby Archie’s christening.
