Meghan Markle’s Talk With Oprah Will Probably Not Stir Up Controversy Like Princess Diana’s 1995 Bombshell Interview

It was recently announced that Meghan, Duchess of Sussex will have a 90-minute interview with legendary TV host Oprah Winfrey. This came a year after she and Prince Harry stepped down from being senior royals.

Some people believe it could be her chance to share juicy information about her time in the royal family, just like what Princess Diana did in 1995. However, there’s a good chance Meghan will not go down that path.

What did Princess Diana share in her 1995 interview?

In 1995, Diana sat down for an exclusive interview with BBC’s Panorama. She shocked fans all over the world for her blunt and honest statements about the struggles she faced in the royal family.

For example, Diana talked candidly about Prince Charles’ affair with Camilla Parker Bowles. She made the infamous statement of there being “three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded.”

Additionally, Diana opened up about bulimia, which she had for “a number of years.” Diana shared that she used eating to cope with moments when she had low self-esteem.

Diana also revealed she had post-natal depression. However, her health struggles only made people in the royal family’s circle label her as “unstable and mentally unbalanced.”

Most royals did not talk so openly to the press about their personal lives, and Diana’s revelations earned her a lot of public sympathy.

Meghan’s interview with Oprah will air on CBS on March 7. According to its description, the interview will touch on “everything from stepping into life as a Royal, marriage, motherhood, philanthropic work to how she is handling life under intense public pressure.”

CBS also added, “Later, the two are joined by Prince Harry as they speak about their move to the United States and their future hopes and dreams for their expanding family.”

Meanwhile, Oprah’s long-time friend Gayle King shared with CBS This Morning that there is a lot fans can look forward to.

“I know she’s been working on the questions all weekend long,” King said. “I’m told nothing is off limits, nothing is off limits. She can ask anything she wants.”

While there is no way to know for certain what Meghan will reveal to Oprah, there are reasons to believe that the interview probably won’t include many bombshell moments like Diana’s did.

According to Dick Arbiter, who used to be a spokesperson for the palace, Meghan and Harry is likely going to use the interview to promote their work in Los Angeles.

“Meghan is very smart and I suspect this is more about getting their message out about what’s next for them and what they are going to do in LA,” Arbiter told Vanity Fair. “Harry and Meghan aren’t going to make any waves, it’s not worth them upsetting the apple cart.”

Additionally, the Sussexes are known to be quite close with Oprah. This could influence the angle Oprah chooses to take in interviewing them.

Nevertheless, that has not stopped the royal family from worrying anyway. Page Six reported that an insider believes the interview is a “cause for concern” for some royals.
