Meghan McCain Just Said the Sweetest Thing About Her Co-Hosts

It’s no secret that Meghan McCain and her co-hosts on The View don’t always see eye to eye — especially when it comes to politics. But on their most recent show, a hot topic hit McCain hard — Donald Trump was once again attacking her father, former senator John McCain. Of course, it was a touchy subject for McCain, but when it came right down to it, she had one thing to say about the other women at the table.

McCain’s father passed away last year

McCain is still fairly new to The View, but if you don’t know who she is, you most definitely know her father. John McCain was a longtime senator and ran for president back in 2008. He was highly regarded as a war hero and was a prisoner of war when he served in the military. Politics aside, the majority of people agree that Senator McCain had a sense of courage and strength that most people don’t, and for that, he is widely respected. However, John McCain was diagnosed with brain cancer in July 2017. A little more than a year later, he passed away from the cancer. But his daughter has followed in his footsteps and become very involved in the political scene.

Donald Trump and John McCain did not get along

John McCain was very outspoken about his dislike for Donald Trump during the 2016 election — the two never got along very well. He made it clear that he didn’t believe Trump had what it took to run the country. And Trump always clapped back. “He was captured… Does being captured make you a hero?” Trump once said, referring to John McCain’s arduous time in the military, where he was held and tortured for more than five years in Vietnam. Many people were in disbelief at Trump’s comments, but things didn’t end there. “I like people who weren’t captured,” he said in 2016, referring to previous comments about the senator.

McCain’s coworkers came to her family’s defense after Trump’s most recent aggressive rant — and she had the sweetest response

Although John McCain passed away about seven months ago, Trump still hasn’t stopped criticizing him. “I was never a fan of John McCain, and I never will be,” Trump said recently, among other distasteful comments toward the late senator. The cast of The View came to Meghan McCain’s defense, saying that Trump’s attacks on her family were uncalled for at the very least. “The claims this man in the House has been making [about John McCain] are not true,” said Whoopi Goldberg. “Why does he continue to attack a legitimate American hero?” she said. The women discussed Trump’s disgraceful words toward John McCain for the better part of the show’s start.

When Meghan McCain got a chance to discuss what Trump had said about her father, she prefaced it with something very sweet about the women at the table with her. “There’s real sisterhood and support at this table,” McCain said. “The support I have, and love, from this show in particular — thank you. All of you — for real.”

McCain and her coworkers haven’t always seen eye to eye, but they care about one another when it counts

McCain and her coworkers are notorious for getting into heated political discussions. McCain is conservative, along with co-host Abby Huntsman, while the other three women on the show are liberal. In such a divisive political climate, it’s easy for discussions to get out of hand. However, McCain and her co-hosts confirmed that when it matters, they are always there for one another. Someone’s political background doesn’t necessarily determine their character, and the women on The View make it clear that they mean more to one another than a political discussion might suggest.
