Meryl Streep “Absolutely Loved” This Scarlett Johansson Movie
Hint: The film is not part of the many leading up to ‘Avengers: Endgame’
Scarlett Johansson is most widely known for playing Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. First donning the superhero suit in 2010’s Iron Man 2, the actress has been closely tied to the acrobatic Avenger who excels in hand-to-hand combat for nearly a decade.
With Avengers: Endgame now only a few weeks away, the role Black Widow will play in the highly anticipated film has been the subject of considerable speculation. With fan theories circling the internet, here’s to hoping Anthony and Joe Russo have managed to pack a surprising punch and throw all speculators for a loop.
Scarlett Johansson sat down for an interview with Sean Evans from First We Feast to discuss her role in the Avengers saga, her past projects outside of the MCU, and her lack of social media presence…all while trying to keep down some really spicy hot wings.
During the interview, Scarlett Johansson was asked to name her movies outside of the MCU that have developed cult followings similar to that of The Avengers. She called out two films with impressive cult followings, Lost in Translation and Lucy, before going on to name the one that Meryl Streep stopped her at the Oscars to discuss.
Scarlett Johansson said Meryl Streep “absolutely loved” ‘Lucy’
During the interview with Sean Evans, Scarlett Johansson explained that Lucy – to her surprise – “oddly” boasts a pretty devout fan following. Scarlett Johansson stated:
“I’ve had so many random, different types of people, from all walks of life, tell me that they loved that movie, including Meryl Streep at the Oscars…She turned around and she was like, ‘Oh my god, it’s you…you know what movie I absolutely loved of yours…Lucy!”First We Feast
Scarlett Johansson goes on to communicate her sense of surprise at Meryl Streep’s response, assuming her answer would have been different, before joking that she herself still doesn’t understand Lucy, but Meryl Streep must.
Why Is ‘Lucy’ such a great Scarlett Johansson movie?
Lucy opened to mixed critical reviews, and currently boasts a 67% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 47% audience score. Thus, it falls into that film category mostly consisting of films that everyday viewers find confusing and bizarre. However, many critics argue that if you follow the director’s narrative – willingly putting bizarre metaphysics and inexact science aside – it’s an enjoyable and socially revelatory movie.
The film follows Lucy after her boyfriend tricks her into delivering a briefcase to a supposed business contact. However, Lucy gets abducted by thugs who intend to use her as a drug mule.
When she is surgically implanted with a chemical, it leaks into her system and gives her telekinetic and telepathic abilities. The movie then follows Lucy, as she seeks out the help of a neuroscientist (Morgan Freeman) while trying to evade her captors at the same time.
Lucy is an action, sci-fi thriller that, according to Meryl Streep, is worth a watch. If anyone’s opinion stands for something, it should be the actress who has won three Academy Awards, right? So, if you have yet to see Lucy, consider renting it. Even if you’re not into the plotline, critics agree that Scarlett Johansson gives an incredible performance in the role.
