‘MIB 23’: What We Know About the ‘MIB’/’Jump Street’ Crossover
The long-rumored 23 Jump Street and Men in Black crossover is officially kicking into high gear. Sony has just announced new details for the franchise mash-up, which was first unveiled in the massive Sony email hack of 2014. Here’s what we know about the upcoming movie so far.
1. The title
After much speculation, Sony has not only confirmed that the franchise crossover of 21 Jump Street and Men In Black is moving forward, but has also revealed the expected title: MIB 23. Per Screen Crush, the studio revealed the title of the upcoming mash-up at this year’s CinemaCon, also unveiling the official logo, as seen above.
2. The cast (so far)
Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill will reportedly return to their roles of undercover officers Jenko and Schmidt. The younger actors will apparently be taking over for original MIB actors, Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, who are not expected to have an appearance in the forthcoming crossover.
3. The director
In March, it was revealed that James Bobin will direct the developing film. He will take over for 22 Jump Street directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who are currently busy working on the Han Solo feature for Disney.
According to Variety, several directors met with the studio for the gig, but Bobin was considered a favorite for some time before officially nabbing the position. The director previously served as one of the executive producers of HBO series Flight of the Conchords and is best known for directing The Muppets and Alice Through the Looking Glass.
4. The creative team
Rodney Rotham, who penned the screenplay for 22 Jump Street, returned to write the now-completed script for the crossover. Plot details are being kept under tight wraps, with Variety reporting that there are only a few copies of the script available.
Meanwhile, Lord and Miller (above) are expected to stay on as producers alongside Neil Moritz, Walter Parkes, and Laurie MacDonald.
MIB 23 will reportedly kick off production in June. A premiere date has not yet been confirmed.
