Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth didn’t have a typical lavish celebrity wedding, choosing instead to keep things low-key. Cyrus and Hemsworth certainly kept it simple, getting married in an intimate ceremony at the couple’s home in Tennessee.

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth decided on a small wedding

Cyrus and Hemsworth got married in December 2018, with photos from the ceremony landing on Instagram with little fanfare. A friend’s Instagram story first clued fans in to the couple getting hitched, as the famous pair were seen in formal attire cutting what appeared to be a wedding cake. In the background, fans spied balloons that read “Mr. & Mrs.”

The couple finally said ‘I do’

Cyrus and Hemsworth famously met and fell in love on the set of The Last Song in 2010. In 2012, Hemsworth proposed, but they broke up a year later; two years later, they were back together and engaged again in 2016.

While the couple didn’t discuss wedding plans and were engaged for some time, their low-key wedding in December had fans cheering that they finally made it official.

Miley Cyrus wanted something unusual for her wedding

In keeping with their casual theme, Cyrus had one request from her new husband on their wedding day. At the recent 2019 MusiCares Person of the Year event, honoring her godmother, Dolly Parton, Cyrus was asked what her one wedding must-have was. Cyrus had an immediate answer, noting: “Literally, vegan chicken and dumplings.”

She added: “That was my only rider. I would do anything for dumplings. You could add nothing else. I didn’t even need a dress. I was trying to wear leggings and a hoodie. I just wanted dumplings, that’s all.”

Details of the food and drink at their small reception included their wedding cake, banana pudding, champagne, sparkling water, and, according to Cyrus, vegan chicken and dumplings.

Cyrus is now Miley Hemsworth

During an appearance on Live with Kelly and Ryan, Hemsworth confirmed that his wife took his last name and is Miley Hemsworth, though she will continued to be known as Miley Cyrus professionally.

He told the hosts: “Miley Ray Hemsworth now, actually,” adding, “She will still be obviously known as Miley Cyrus, but she took my name, which is great.”

Hemsworth continued: “That was honestly one of the best things about it. I didn’t ask her to take my name, but she was like, ‘No, of course, I’m taking your name.’”

Hemsworth dished on their simple wedding

As for why the powerhouse couple decided not to have a blowout wedding ceremony and reception, Hemsworth told Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest: “We never wanted to do anything too extravagant or big.”

He explained: “We find the whole thing kind of embarrassing. We know how we feel about each other. We just wanted something simple and organic with immediate family.”

Hemsworth gets the Cyrus family seal of approval

Cyrus’ mom, Tish, told E! News a little more about the couple getting married, sharing, “Liam has been a part of our family for so long. They’ve been together since she was 16 years old. So it’s like, it’s almost like not a lot different, I mean it is a little bit but it’s really not because he’s just a part of our family for so long that sometimes I actually kinda forget it happened until somebody asks, and then I’m like, ‘Oh yeah, that did happen!'”
