Miley Cyrus Made An Insensitive Joke About Her Marriage With Liam Hemsworth

Miley Cyrus is one of the most popular stars of her generation, but in recent years, she has earned more press for her personal life than for her music. The famously “out-there” Cyrus has made her career partially on the pureness of her singing voice, but also on the sometimes lewd and often controversial way that her persona has developed.

Most recently, Cyrus has been making headlines for her split from Liam Hemsworth, with a recent report suggesting that she’s still not quite over the relationship, even though she has moved on with another man. Read on to learn about Cyrus and Hemsworth’s relationship, why they divorced, and what Miley Cyrus has said about it recently.

Miley Cyrus first crossed paths with rising young actor Liam Hemsworth in 2009 on the set of their movie The Last Song. The young co-stars started dating, but by late 2010, they endured their first breakup. They reconnected in early 2011 and got engaged in June 2012. Their engagement lasted a little over a year before the young couple called it off in September 2013.

Cyrus and Hemsworth took a two-year break, where they dated other people and advanced their respective careers. However, they kept finding themselves returning to each other, and by early 2016, Cyrus and Hemsworth were spotted together yet again. In short order, they got matching tattoos and renewed their engagement.

The couple shared many good times together, and shared many happy snaps on social media, but tragedy befell them in November 2018, when the rampaging California wildfires claimed their Malibu home. Cyrus and Hemsworth lost everything in the house except their beloved pets.

In the wake of the tragedy that they suffered, Miley Cyrus and Chris Hemsworth decided to take their relationship to the next step. In December 2018, they got married. The ceremony was small and private, and both Cyrus and Hemsworth shared some sweet images to Instagram to honor the big day. Over the course of the next few months, Cyrus released a slew of new music, and the pair even opened up to chat about their relationship, admitting that it was definitely nontraditional.

Still, in August 2019, Cyrus and Hemsworth announced that they would be separating. The announcement came as a shock to many of their fans, but not so much to others who had wondered if the marriage was too hasty or if the young couple just found themselves growing in different directions. Some critics have placed the blame on Cyrus’s wild image and speculated about whether or not Hemsworth felt uncomfortable with her controversial ways.

In the months since the divorce announcement, both Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have moved on. Reports suggest that Liam Hemsworth is dating actress Maddison Brown (although he has also been linked to Gabriella Brooks), while Cyrus was briefly linked to Kaitlynn Carter before linking up with Cody Simpson. Still, it seems as though Miley Cyrus still has some jokes to make about her super-short marriage to Hemsworth.

Recently, an artist known as Matty Mo posted on Instagram that his plans for 2020 include marriage to Miley Cyrus. Cyrus herself commented on his post, saying “It probably won’t last long, but always down to try, You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” Cyrus is certainly not above making jokes at her own expense, although the jury is still out as to how Hemsworth feels about Cyrus’s chatty nature.
