Many of us, everyday people and celebrities, have been trying to find the best ways to use our time amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Self-quarantining and social distancing has caused many people to turn toward social media in order to interact with loved ones and followers.
Miley Cyrus has been practicing self-isolation and quarantining. However, Instagram Live has worked to her advantage during this time. The singer/actress has been pairing up with her famous friends on her podcast, Bright Minded: Live with Miley.
Recently, the Hannah Montana alum chatted with supermodel Hailey Bieber about her current relationship with God, religion, and why she stopped going to church.
Miley Cyrus is a huge advocate for self-isolation
Though she is used to being out and about like the rest of us with her loved one, Cyrus has been taking self-quarantining very seriously. She has used her special media platform to show several memes and videos about why social distancing is so important.
On Instagram, she even shared several photos of herself surrounded by her dogs. She captioned the photo, “Social distancing with a few exceptions.”Though she remains in isolation, Cyrus has also been sure to interact with her friends and fans though Bright Minded: Live with Miley.
Miley Cyrus opened up about her relationship with God
On a recent episode of Bright Minded: Live with Miley with Hailey Bieber, the songstress got candid about her religious beliefs. “I had a hard time finding a relationship with God that worked for me as an adult,” Cyrus explained. “I think … I’m allowed to decide what my relationship is with spirituality as an adult that doesn’t have to be aligned with the way that it was when I was brought up.”
Bieber who regularly attends church with her husband, Justin Bieber had a supportive and thoughtful response. “I think there’s a difference between being raised in church and being an adult and having your own relationship with God and Jesus and spirituality because what my relationship was with faith getting raised that way is completely different than me in my own journey as an adult,” the supermodel explained. “I found a church community that works for me, where I feel supported and loved and accepted.”
This is why Miley Cyrus stopped attending church
In addition to struggling with figuring out her adult relationship with God, Cyrus also stopped attending church because of the widespread homophobia that is found in many churches.
“I had some gay friends in school. That is the reason why I left my church is that they weren’t being accepted,” she explained, “They were being sent to conversion therapies. I had a hard time with me finding my sexuality too.”
Cyrus came out as pansexual in a May 2016 interview with Variety. “My whole life, I didn’t understand my own gender and sexuality.” In the summer of 2019, the singer had a romantic relationship with her then-friend Kaitlyn Carter shortly after announcing her divorce from her husband of less than one year, Liam Hemsworth.
