The Malibu Fire pushed Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth to get married
The young couple were engaged years before then broke up. They got engaged years later and were still taking their time to walk down the aisle. Miley Cyrus revealed why they finally pulled the trigger.
“I’m not sure without losing Malibu, we would’ve been ready to take this step or ever even gotten married, who can say? But the timing felt right and I go with my heart,” the singer told Vanity Fair. “No one is promised the next day, or the next, so I try to be ‘in the now’ as much as possible.”
The couple had their home burn down to the ground from the fire. Their wedding was a month later.
“I would say that losing the house changed us much more than getting married changed us,” revealed Cyrus. “When you experience what we experienced together with someone, it is like glue. You’re the only two people in the world who can understand.”
The only thing left from their home were concrete letters that spelled “love”
The singer previously talked about Hemsworth finding concrete letters that spelled “love” that
“That’s literally and physically all that’s left, so I felt that that was really poetic. She also revealed that she had to check her mentality after the tragic event. “For me, I had a choice of post-traumatic stress or post-traumatic growth,” explained the singer. “I think I always, you feel like you don’t have control, especially when something happens that’s a natural disaster because there is no beating nature; it is really what it is.”
The couple was originally planning to wed at their Malibu home
What was the couple’s original plan before they eventually married on Christmas Eve? Their burned home was reportedly the original venue for the big day.
“They had planned to get married in Malibu over the holidays when all of their families were together. After their Malibu house didn’t make the fire, they have been living at Miley’s Tennessee house,” a source told People. Still, the ceremony probably would have intimate.
“We never wanted to do anything too extravagant or big,” Hemsworth told Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest. “We find the whole thing kind of embarrassing. We know how we feel about each other. We just wanted something simple and organic with immediate family.”
