Miley Cyrus Should Follow Her Own Advice About Social Media and Fame

Miley Cyrus might be having a “hot girl summer” but many of her fans have had about enough of the relationship drama. The singer separated from her husband Liam Hemsworth in mid-August. Ever since then, she has been everywhere — all over social media and all over the news.

This is hardly new for Cyrus. She has been famous since she was a little girl, but now, with rumors swirling that she’s dating Brody Jenner’s ex-wife, Kaitlynn Carter, Cyrus has reached a whole new level of sensational.

Cyrus started dating Hemsworth in 2009, after meeting on the set of their movie The Last Song. The young couple made their red-carpet debut in 2010 and became inseparable. Their relationship was fractious from the start and they would end up breaking up and making up several times throughout the course of the next nine years.

They got engaged in 2012 and broke it off shortly thereafter, only to get re-engaged in 2016. Their on-off relationship might have caused their followers to develop whiplash, but after getting married in December 2018, many fans thought that this time, their love was for real.

Although Cyrus might have gotten her start in entertainment as playing good girl Hannah Montana, she shed that image long ago in favor of a wilder, raunchier public persona. Cyrus doesn’t shy away from adult conversations: In the past, she has opened up about “cybersex” with Hemsworth and how much “action” her husband got after saving their animals from the devastating California wildfires.

In contrast, Hemsworth maintains his privacy and doesn’t often grant interviews, especially ones pertaining to his personal life. Some fans have speculated that it was Cyrus’ brashness that played a part in ultimately ending their marriage. Cyrus and Hemsworth went on to announce their split in August 2019.

Miley Cyrus shares a lot on social media

In the days leading up to and immediately following the split announcement, Cyrus started to get even bolder on social media. Her bikini photos caused quite a stir, as did a video of Cyrus emerging from the water in a tiny white bathing suit. Then, on August 22, Cyrus released a statement on Instagram, slamming the rumors that she had cheated on Hemsworth, and going down a list of her wild-child behavior.

In spite of her Instagram statement, Cyrus has been in the news more than ever. People can’t stop talking about the singer, and her constant sharing seems to be adding fuel to the fire.

Should Miley Cyrus start being more private?

Cyrus isn’t the only famous member of the Cyrus household. Her little sister, Noah Cyrus, is embarking on a promising career as a singer, and recently gave an interview where she talked about things that she’s learned from her sister’s example. According to Noah Cyrus, her big sister told her that the best way to deal with fame was “keep Instagram comments turned off” and to not read anything that anyone says about her.

Perhaps, in her heart-to-heart with her sister, there was some unintentional wisdom for the older Cyrus sister. It seems like the best course of action for Miley Cyrus, for the immediate future at least, would be to take a meaningful step away from social media, and work to redirect the focus from her personal life to her music and artistic projects.
