Ryan and Emilia Serhant’s Instagrams are filled with joyous photos of their beautiful infant daugther Zena.
The Million Dollar Listing New York family is overjoyed to be parents and recently Emilia Serhant shared how dark her days became while struggling with infertility. During a previous season, the couple hinted about a struggle to have children, even contemplating whether or not to purchase a large brownstone in case pregnancy wasn’t possible.
However, when cameras were not rolling Serhant underwent in-vitro fertilization (IVF), which is an emotional and painful process for many women. Now Serhant reflects on her journey, recalling how she lost her light and fun during the process. But assures couples who are currently struggling that they are not alone.
Serhant recalls what life was like before IVF
In an emotional Instagram post, Serhant recounts life before, during and after IVF. “Remember when you were fun? Before the shots, before the fertility meds, before the ten millionth time you were poked at and probed at by a nurse or doctor? before you had to schedule time with your partner or before your heart broke each month?”
“Fertility challenges, can take a couple through a roller coaster ride. One that can last for years,” she continued. “The stress, the anxiety, of not being able to get pregnant can take a toll.”
Serhant’s husband secretly recorded the moment when the couple learned IVF worked for them. The couple seems nervous and almost terrified to read the pregnancy test. But then overjoyed and extremely emotional when they discovered they were about to become parents.
The road leading up to IVF was the toughest
Serhant shared that she lost her light and fun during the IVF rollercoaster ride. “Our own road leading up to IVF, was the toughest. I lost that light and bubbly disposition during that time,” she wrote.
“Looking back, I wouldn’t change any of it,” Serhant continued. “You read that correctly. There were lows, but there were enlightening highs. When Ryan and I got to see one another at our strongest and even our best. We bonded more than ever before.”
She shared that the couple ended up closer during the process. “Became a family before a baby and fell in love all over again. I finally, stopped expecting him to be a superhero with the ability to read my mind (sorry puffer for forgetting this one lots lately 🤣) and started to understand him more. I respected him for stepping up and really being there. In many ways, I’m grateful we got the time to rebuild our relationship with an even stronger foundation, before we welcomed Zena.”
She has a message for couples going through IVF
Serhant appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen and said watching some of the Real Housewives helped her during her journey. “So I have to tell you, the Housewives got me through IVF and through my pregnancy,” she shared. “So I really appreciate all of you. Because I was pretty much alone most of the time.”
She also has a message for those who are still in the process. “To the couples out there going through your worst. You’re not alone. Yes, you DO lose a little part of your old self that gets chipped away at, but with it you gain a little piece of a new self. A new chapter and a new ‘us’. I know most days this is easier said than done, but I hope you’ll take a minute to take pride in this newfound bond you are building with each passing day. ❤️”
