Is Mindy Kaling Writing Another Book?
Many of the most famous people in Hollywood have written memoirs. We’re all looking to read more about them, so why not have them tell us themselves? From Michelle Obama to Real Housewives stars like Lisa Rinna and Carole Radziwill, many famous figures have put their names on self-help guides, tell-alls, and even novels. Among them is Mindy Kaling, who is currently working on a new project. Here’s what we know.
Mindy Kaling is famous for her acting roles
Because they’re the ones on-camera, we typically know more about actors than anyone else. But Kaling, who first appeared on screen in The Office, actually started her career as a writer. She was hired as a writer for The Office when it first began, and her character of Kelly was then added in.
Kaling has continued this trend of writing much of her own work. She wrote for, created, and starred in The Mindy Project, and has also taken on producing roles. Kaling’s most recent venture, a film titled Late Night, features her as one of the stars and comes from a script she wrote. Additionally, she’s taken on other acting gigs, such as A Wrinkle in Time and Ocean’s 8, in which she was just in front of the camera.
She has also written two books
Because she’s a writer by trade, it makes sense that Kaling would dive into the publishing world. Her first memoir, 2011’s Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) was a huge hit. It detailed much of her life growing up, and how she got into the business.
Her second memoir came out in 2015. Titled Why Not Me?, it caught the reader up on Kaling’s life since becoming famous, and how she has adjusted to life in Hollywood. It premiered at No. 1 on The New York Times Best Sellers list.
Kaling has just announced a new project
Amidst promotion for Late Night, Kaling has made yet another exciting announcement. She took to her social media on Tuesday, May 28, 2019, to share that she is putting out a collection of essays through Amazon Publishing.
Kaling wrote that the essays will “share the secrets of how [she] balance[s] being a professional writer, actor, and single mom.” Then, in her typical comedic style, she added that she really doesn’t have the secrets, saying, “This morning I bribed my baby with a remote control to get my car keys back. But I do have funny stories about my life and I can’t wait for you to read them.”
How can you read these essays?
If you follow the link, it shows that “The next chapter” will be here in Summer 2020. According to Amazon, these will be free (to both read and listen to via audio file) for Amazon Prime members and those with the KindleUnlimited package. There’s also a place to follow along for author updates.
So if after seeing Kaling in Late Night, you need more, this is an exciting thing to look forward to. Hopefully, she’ll keep us updated on social media as well, because we can’t get enough of what she has to say.
