Modern Family has been staying strong when it comes to ratings for some time now, and the family has only grown. But fans should prepare themselves because the show is now taking an emotional turn in Season 10. What has been revealed so far? Here is everything to know about the upcoming death.

Co-creator Christopher Lloyd said a significant character will die

This upcoming season will be a pivotal one. “We do deal with a death,” Christopher Lloyd told Entertainment Weekly “which is certainly a topic that families have to deal with, and on television, it’s not easy to do because that’s a heavy subject. But at the same time, it would seem unusual for a family not to go through it.”

The character who will die isn’t a minor character either. Lloyd said this person is a “significant character on the series,” and it “will be a moving event — and an event that has repercussions across several episodes.”

This person’s death will change the family’s dynamic

Of course, a family has to adjust after a death and Lloyd said this will be the case on the show. “There is a significant change in the dynamics of the family,” he told Entertainment Weekly “that people maybe thought was going to happen at some point down the line that is happening sooner than expected.”

Lloyd also talked about this aspect of the season with Deadline. “Big relationship changes, some life and death, one family faces death for the first time, which is a big point for us,” he said. “Pretty significant changes in the lives of a couple of the Dunphy kids.”

This turn could mean there will be a Season 11

Does the long-running show have any more steam? ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey told Deadline that discussions about the show having another season have already started. Lloyd also chimed in that this upcoming storyline could mean there is more to come.

“We found out that we were getting into some very rich new areas with these characters,” he told Deadline “that there is a lot more to explore in the series.”

Fans are already starting to guess which character will get the axe. But it will definitely be an emotional episode to watch no matter who it is.
