Mom-Shamers Slam Former ‘Counting On’ Star Jill Duggar Again for the Way She Feeds Her Kids
Jill Duggar can’t catch a break. The other day, the mom of two shared a few photos of her sons Samuel and Israel chowing down on some edamame for a healthy afternoon snack. But it didn’t take long for the mom-shamers to flood her November 19 Instagram post with judgmental comments about her parenting decisions.
People can’t get over the bibs Jill puts on her kids
In the photos, both Israel, 4, and Samuel, 2, are wearing what look like silicone bibs. Each has a pocket in front to catch any stray bits of food or spills. This style of bib has earned rave reviews from parents who love that it makes mealtime clean up easier. But some commenters on Jill’s Instagram think it’s time she put the bib away for her older child.
“Izzy is a bit too old for a bib. If he sits at the table properly there should not be much mess,” wrote one.
“Jill, Israel is 4-years-old. It’s time for you to get rid of his bib. I’ve worked with a lot of 4-year-olds in Preschool and not one of them ever wore a bib when they ate breakfast, lunch or snacks,” declared another.
“Still with that stupid bib. He’s way too old for that and edamame isn’t even messy. Teach him manners and you won’t need a bib at his age,” added another critical commenter.
This isn’t the first time people have criticized the bibs
Jill’s decision to put bibs on her kids has become a flashpoint for commenters. They’ve slammed her use of the items in the past, declaring that she needs to teach her oldest child how to eat without making a mess.
So far, Jill hasn’t responded directly to any of her critics. But when one commenter wrote that they wished they could have a similar adult bib for themselves and that the bibs were “mess savers” when they had little kids, Jill agreed.
“Seriously though, right? Haha,” she replied. Apparently, she’s not letting the comments from mom-shamers changer her parenting style.
Others praised Jill for feeding her kids a healthy snack
While a number of people had thoughts about Jill’s use a bibs, other commenters praised the former Counting On star for feeding her kids a healthy snack. (Edamame is a good source of fiber, protein, and iron, notes WebMD.)
“How do you get your toddlers to eat so many healthy foods!?! They seem so adventurous with food for their age!” wondered one.
“How do you prepare the edamame? It’s such a healthy food and I wish my kiddos would eat it!” asked another.
Given that Jill grew up eating a lot of canned and processed food, it’s no wonder her choice of a more wholesome snack drew positive comments. But at least one commenter was worried that she was hurting her boys by feeding them edamame, which are soybeans.
“Boys shouldn’t be given soy,” the person wrote, adding that it “feminized” male children since it contains compounds that are similar to estrogen. But soy is perfectly safe for kids of all genders, registered dietitian Sally Kuzemchak wrote in Parents.
It seems that whatever Jill does, people are going to have comments.
