What Will Monica Rambeau’s Role In ‘WandaVision’ Be?

With Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home bringing fans the end of Phase 3 in the MCU, Phase 4 is starting up soon and will now include shows as well. One of the most anticipated series is WandaVision, which will not only bring back Vision and Scarlet Witch but also bring in new, yet familiar characters like Monica Rambeau

With the creation of Disney+, these shows will be canon within the MCU and include actors from the movies. In the past, the only Marvel shows to bring characters from the films were Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. with Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) and Marvel’s Agent Carter with Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell). With that in mind, this inclusion of an adult Monica Rambeau will shape some movies hereon out as well.

Who is Monica Rambeau?

Fans met the MCU version of Monica Rambeau in Captain Marvel. Monica is the daughter of Maria Rambeau (Lashana Lynch), Carol Danvers’ best friend in the air force and at home. Monica saw Carol as another guardian, calling her “Auntie Carol.” Even six years away from the Rambeau’s couldn’t break the bond Carol has with them.

In the comics, however, it was a bit different, with the main point being that Monica was the second ever Captain Marvel, after Mar-Vell. Carol Danvers didn’t take up the monicker until recently as the seventh Captain Marvel and used Ms. Marvel before that. Monica can transform into different types of energy as the hero and later goes by Spectrum, Photon, and Pulsar.

What is Monica’s role in ‘WandaVision’?

It was a bit of a surprise for fans to find out that Monica Rambeau would be making her introduction into the MCU as an adult on WandaVision and not in Captain Marvel 2, with Teyonah Parris cast to replace her child counterpart, Akira Akbar.

Monica hasn’t had any interactions with MCU characters outside of those in Captain Marvel and has no connection to Wanda Maximoff or Vision in the comics. And with the premiere of WandaVision not until spring 2021, fans won’t get that answer soon.

But ScreenRant did put together a few ideas of how Monica could fit into a WandaVision series, like working with Nick Fury on S.W.O.R.D., which is potentially the place he’s “vacationing” in the Spider-Man: Far From Home after-credits scene. Another possibility is that she’ll be a mutant, in addition to Scarlet Witch, finally tying in the X-Men to the MCU.

What does this mean for ‘Captain Marvel’?

Whatever route is taken, it will undoubtedly lead back to Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel. The bond they shared in their movie was unbreakable, with an unconditional love between the two. Even though the MCU switched up the order in which they become the proton-blasting hero, Monica will most likely get her powers too.

There is even less information known about the Captain Marvel sequel, but it seems hard to believe adult or child Monica won’t be involved. If Monica is working with Fury, that’s a perfect segway to connect the two as well.

Who else will be joining the cast of ‘WandaVision’?

WandaVision isn’t just adding in Teyonah Parris as Monica, but is also bringing back Kat Dennings in her Thor role as Darcy and Randall Park as Jimmy Woo, an FBI agent from Ant-Man and the Wasp. Katheryn Hahn has also been cast as a nosy neighbor for some added comic relief.

What can you expect from ‘WandaVision’?

With a lot of those comedic actors brought on to the show, it might be a bit surprising, considering Scarlet Witch and Vision are known for their sullenness. According to Nerdist, WandaVision will have a “weird sitcom-meets-creepy-dread vibe.” That’s something very different, but possibly very good, coming to Disney+.
