‘Hunger Games’ and ‘Twilight’ Theme Park to Open in South Korea

Lionsgate has entered into a deal that would create outdoor attractions for the movie franchises Hunger Games, Twilight, and Now You See Me at a planned theme park in South Korea, the Hollywood studio announced.

The movie properties have been licensed to Landing Jeju Development Co., which will create the “Lionsgate Movie World” attraction at Jeju Shinhwa World in 2019. The attraction will include movie-themed rides, restaurants, stores, and live entertainment, all spanning across an area of 1.3 million square feet, per Hollywood Reporter.

The attractions would open in staggered phases in the coming years. Construction on the park is planned to begin next year. The park will comprise seven different zones, each dedicated to a different film, according to Fortune. In addition to the aforementioned films, one zone will be dedicated to the upcoming remake of “Robinhood.” The zones will include reproduced streets and towns from the films.

“We’re pleased to partner with our friends at Landing International, one of Asia’s premier developers, on our first branded outdoor theme park and one of our largest and most exciting location-based entertainment destinations,” Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer said in a statement, as reported on Hollywood Reporter.

Lionsgate already has its hand in theme parks. Opening this fall will be a Lionsgate zone in Motionpark, located in Dubai. Featured will be two Hunger Games rides and a live-action show, as reported by Syfy, who also notes that in China, Lionsgate will open movie-themed attractions in 2018.

The Twilight Saga garnered a gross income of over $3.3 billion. The Hunger Games grossed over $2.9 billion.
