The Best All-American Movies and TV Shows to Stream on Netflix This 4th of July

If you were planning on spending the Fourth of July holiday relaxing by the pool or flipping burgers on the grill, you might want to rethink those plans. A holiday heatwave is forecast for much of the U.S. this July 4, which will likely send many people heading indoors to escape the high temps

Hot, sticky weather might keep you on the couch rather than in the backyard, but it does give you an excuse to spend the day watching a Fourth of July-themed movie or TV show. Whether you’re in the mood for a drama about America’s fight for independence or a series about a group of kids who spend the summer fighting off monsters from another dimension, Netflix has you covered.

Stranger Things

The much-anticipated third season of Stranger Things arrives on Netflix on July 4. The summer premiere is a switch for the series, which usually arrives around Halloween, but it makes sense for this season, where we’ll get a look at Hawkins, Indiana’s Independence Day 1985 celebration.

Lincoln

Steven Spielberg’s Oscar-winning movie about Abraham Lincoln (Daniel Day-Lewis) during the final months of the Civil War is a must-see for anyone interested in American history.

Out of Many, One

In this 30-minute documentary, a diverse group of men and women prepare to take the U.S. citizenship test.

Netflix also has a number of other documentaries about American history, including Ken Burns’ The Civil War, The Vietnam War, and The West, Ava DuVernay’s 13th, and Frank Capra’s WWII-era propaganda doc Prelude to War (part of his Why We Fight series)
