Who Keanu Reeves Should Play in the MCU: Fans’ Top 3 Picks

Keanu Reeves — the man behind the John Wick franchise and the voice of Duke Caboom in Toy Story 4is experiencing quite the surge in popularity as of late. From a Change.org petition arguing that the actor deserves to be Time Magazine’s Person of the Year to his strong shot at People’s next Sexiest Man Alive, no one can get enough of Reeves.

Reeves is best known today for portraying one of the most famous anti-heroes on the silver screen, John Wick— a man fraught with grief and on a neverending revenge mission spiraling out of control. In short, a transition to the MCU in the near future seems apt. Reeves has been tied to several MCU characters, including Yon-Rogg from Captain Marvel (portrayed by Jude Law), but the timing has never seemed to work out.

If Keanu Reeves were to make his MCU debut, which character would be the best fit? Fans have taken to various forums to comment on the best match, and certain villains tend to emerge most frequently. This list will attempt to highlight the three characters several Marvel enthusiasts feel would be a match for Keanu Reeves.

Would Reeves work as the Silver Surfer?

Silver Surfer comes with a backstory that Keanu Reeves may be able to relate to, given his six-year turn as Wick. In John Wick, Keanu Reeves’ wife Helen is deceased. According to Marvel comic book history, Silver Surfer offers to become a herald to Galactus — who devours worlds — in an attempt to save the woman he loved.

In the previous film adaptation, the Silver Surfer had quite a mysterious disposition and was voiced by Laurence Fishburne. However, Doug Jones was the man on the surfboard, seemingly flying through the air with ease.

On the potential of seeing Keanu Reeves take on the Silver Surfer, one fan stated:

I was thinking Adam Warlock, but Silver Surfer is a damn good idea. I’m assuming they have him play the role a whole lot closer to “Neo” than “Ted” and don’t make surfer jokes.

With an intimidating, yet sophisticated voice, Keanu Reeves seems like the perfect fit. Not to mention, he is 6’ 1” tall and boasts an admirable physique, which is usually a requirement for a virtually naked super-powered individual.

Why Keanu Reeves would be a great Doctor Doom

Given that a Doctor Doom solo movie is allegedly in the works, this dream may just become a reality, according to The Digital Wise. Doctor Doom usually fights for himself, as opposed to some grander purpose, which, once again, would be in line with John Wick.

Doctor Doom was previously portrayed by Julian McMahon, who happens to boast a similar look to Keanu, as he’s rocking dark wavy locks and pale white skin. One of Doom’s main missions in Marvel comics – create a machine to project an individual’s astral form into another dimension — grows from a desire to save his mother. Yet again, another personally-driven villain.

Reeves as Taskmaster…is this still possible?

Many marvel enthusiasts argue that Keanu Reeves would make an incomparable Taskmaster. However, given that the Black Widow movie cast has been announced, this may be unlikely. On the other hand, Marvel is known for keeping secrets and surprising its fanbase.

Imagine this: Rachel Weisz turns out to be the Iron Maiden, who her character Melina transforms into in the comics, and a different A-list actor is behind Taskmaster’s mask…and that a-lister is Keanu Reeves. One fan, discussing the idea of Keane Reeves as Taskmaster stated, “He would literally be perfect.” Who knows, maybe those behind Black Widow have one more trick up their sleeves.
