MTV’s awards show for the masses, the MTV Movie Awards, aired on Sunday night, with Conan O’Brien hosting the crowd-pleasing event that gives out awards like “Best Fight,” “Best Kiss,” and “Best Shirtless Performance.” Conan proved himself a funny and capable host for the event despite being a bit older than the generation that watches it, and The Hunger Games took home multiple awards.

Conan kicked off the evening with a sketch that included 50 celebrity cameos in five minutes, with an array of stars that included Martin Scorsese, Taylor Swift, Jack White, Grumpy Cat, and Jack Nicholson’s middle finger.

Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire took home three golden popcorn statues, for Movie of the Year, Best Female Performance for Jennifer Lawrence, and Best Male Performance for Josh Hutcherson. Divergent, which received poor reviews in part for being too similar to The Hunger Games, saw star Shailene Woodley win Best Character for her portrayal of the protagonist Tris.

As for the more unconventional awards, Zach Efron won Best Shirtless Performance for That Awkward Moment, Orlando Bloom and Evangeline Lilly won Best Fight for their battle against the Orcs in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, and Mila Kunis won Best Villain for her take on the Wicked Witch of the West in Oz the Great and Powerful.

Leonardo DiCaprio won best #WTF Moment for a scene in The Wolf of Wall Street in which his character attempts to exit a country club and drive his sports car home while addled by an incredibly powerful dose of Quaaludes. Jonah Hill took home a trophy for Best Comedic Performance for his role as Dicaprio’s depraved right-hand man in the movie, as well.

Another big winner of the evening was the widely panned comedy We’re The Millers, which saw the teenage Will Poulter win Best Breakthrough Performance and Best Kiss for a three-way smooch with co-stars Jennifer Aniston and Emma Roberts. The Best Kiss award frequently goes to unconventional kisses, with same-sex smooches and three-way make out sessions popular choices. The three-way kiss between James Franco, Ashley Benson, and Vanessa Hudgens in Spring Breakers and Amy Adam’s kiss with Jennifer Lawrence in American Hustle were also nominated this year.

One big highlight of the evening, which had been hyped up by MTV for weeks beforehand, was Eminem’s performance of his hit “Monsters” with Rihanna. The two have collaborated before, and the intense performance showed their chemistry.

Two lifetime achievement-esque awards were handed out during the evening — the MTV Generation Award and the MTV Trailblazer Award. Mark Wahlberg won the MTV Generation Award and gave a profanity-laden speech, saying “This is the ‘you’re-too-fucking-old-to-come-back’ award!” The MTV Trailblazer Award went to Channing Tatum, who was introduced by co-star Jonah Hill. “Think about the idea of a trailblazer: A super good-looking guy who becomes the lead in movies. That is an amazing trailblaze! What’s a more trailblazing experience than a fucking gorgeous man becoming a movie star?” Hill said in his sarcastic but affectionate speech about Tatum.

Overall, the awards show hit the expected notes, and aside from a weird opening song, Conan was an entertaining host.
