‘MTV VMAs’ 2019: Who is Host Sebastian Maniscalco?
It all comes down to tonight. MTV’s Video Music Awards air this evening and the internet is abuzz with anticipation. Who will take home which award, which stars will make fools of themselves in their acceptance speeches, and will we get another Taylor Swift/Kanye Westesque showdown?
Each year, the VMAs bring some of the top names in music together to celebrate the art of music videos. Complete with killer music performances, the award ceremony always delivers an exciting show.
The role of the host at the VMAs
The host is probably the most important part of the entire VMAs. Sure, the musical performances are great and the actual awards matter, but if the host is a snooze or has no comedic timing, the whole show is thrown off.
The host’s job is to keep things moving, keep the audience entertained, and above all, keep people from changing the channel.
Hosts are typically big-name celebrities. Past hosts have included Eddie Murphy, Chelsea Handler, Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, and Russell Brand.
But this year, the host’s name doesn’t ring a bell for most people.
Who is Sebastian Maniscalco?
When it was announced that Sebastian Maniscalco would be hosting the VMAs, the internet reacted with a resounding “who?”
But the comedian was ready for that.
“As soon as they announce the VMAs, 3 million teenagers are going to search ‘Who the hell is Sebastian Maniscalco,'” he says in the promo for the awards.
But he’s excited to get in front of a new audience and brush up on his pop culture.
“I don’t know who’s feuding with who, who’s throwing shade,” Maniscalco said on a recent episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! “I’m excited, this is going to be a challenge for me, a new audience for me, and I’m coming prepared.”
