5 Must-See TV and Movie Trailers: ‘Arrow’ and More

Trailers are as much a part of the movie-going experience nowadays as the films themselves. There’s something incomparably exciting about seeing what amounts to a two-minute sizzle reel of a release’s best scenes. It’s why trailer culture has proliferated into what it is today, and makes it so even the release date of a short teaser is a day to look forward to. In the spirit of this, our team gathers together the best the internet has to offer, delivering all the TV and movie trailers and teasers you can possibly handle in one place every week.

1. Arrow

The CW’s Arrow hasn’t necessarily been at its best in recent seasons. A scattered narrative and an overabundance of new characters have weighed down its typically solid story, diverting much-needed focus away from our titular hero. Season 5 will look to get the series back on track, and the latest trailer teases at a commitment toward improvement. We see Oliver still reeling from the death of Laurel Lance, even going so far as to do away with his strict “no killing” policy.

Meanwhile, he’s doing what he can to reassemble his shattered team, filling the ranks of Team Arrow with a host of new trainees. A different kind of dynamic follows, as Oliver tries to teach these new vigilantes the superhero basics. We’ll also be getting new villains, including a mysterious archer ominously stating, “the Green Arrow is mine.” The pieces are there for an improved season. We’ll just have to see if Arrow can assemble them together when it debuts this October.

2. Doctor Strange

Doctor Strange promises to be something entirely different for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), taking us deep into the realm of magic and mysticism. The latest TV spot for the film sheds some light on that approach, as we see our hero wielding his power as the Sorcerer Supreme. Even checking in at an all too brief one minute runtime, it affords us details concerning the main story, including Doctor Strange’s role as a sorcerer-in-training, and a bit of witty banter between him and our villain played by Mads Mikkelsen. Combine that with the announcement that the final Rogue One: A Star Wars Story trailer will be attached to Doctor Strange‘s November release, and we have plenty of reasons to be excited.

3. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Past trailers for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them have been decidedly short on plot details. The latest teaser from the Harry Potter universe breaks that trend, running us through the story of Newt Scamander, a British wizard who’s arrived in New York City with a suitcase full of dangerous magical creatures. The wizarding world in America exists in stark contrast to the one we see in England, with many feeling as though they shouldn’t be forced to hide their magic from everyday humans. We even see a passing mention to Grindelwald, the dark wizard that in many ways was a predecessor to Voldemort in Harry Potter lore. Visually, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them promises to be a treat, it’s merely a question of whether its story can follow suit.

4. Star Wars Rebels

Star Wars Rebels returned in style last week, giving us a much-needed Star Wars fix before the December release of Rogue One. This week’s episode (airing this Saturday) will be more of the same, bringing back none other than Darth Maul, who was last seen fleeing a Sith temple at the end of Season 2. Maul looks to be searching for the Sith holocron, originally taken by Ezra Bridger, and now in the hands of the enigmatic Bendu. To accomplish his goals, Maul kidnaps the crew of the Ghost, holding them for ransom until he gets what he wants. We get a brief look at that in the clip featured above, teasing at an intriguing season arc for the popular Star Wars villain.

5. Fences

Denzel Washington numbers himself among some of Hollywood’s most accomplished actors, bringing a unique flare to every character he plays. For Fences, we may as well just hand him the Oscar now, because it looks like yet another incredible performance.

This time around, Washington plays a fiercely traditional father, with a son constantly seeking to earn his approval. Alongside fellow Oscar-worthy actor Viola Davis, we have a powerful combination of talent leading the bill. Oh and the icing on the cake: Washington directed Fences himself. You can bet this one is already topping our list of must-sees coming up this December.
