‘NCIS’: Cote de Pablo and Mark Harmon Reveal What Ziva Knows About Tali and Tony

Ziva David’s (Cote de Pablo) return to NCIS could set her up for some big reunions in season 17. Ever since Ziva appeared in the season 16 finale, fans have been wondering if she will ever reunite with her daughter, Tali, and her former lover, Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly). NCIS producers have been mum about Ziva’s journey this season, though De Pablo and Harmon recently revealed what she knows about Tony and Tali.

What happened to Tali?

Ziva faked her death in season 13 to keep her daughter safe. The sacrifices she made over the last few years will be explored in the season 17 premiere of NCIS, including how much her family knows about her faked death.

As far as her daughter is concerned, de Pablo revealed that a Mossad agent delivered Tali to her father, Tony. Beyond that, we have no idea what happened between Ziva and her family, though de Pablo teased that we will soon find out.

“Tali was delivered to him [by Mossad], and that was the end of it,” De Pablo shared. “Don’t ask any questions, dot-dot-dot, to be continued.”

In season 13, Tony flew to Paris to find Tali and raise her. Tony discovered that he was Tali’s father following Ziva’s death in Israel.

We now know, of course, that Ziva did not die in a mortar attack and faked her death to keep Tali safe. In the season 16 finale, we learned that Ziva was hiding from a mysterious threat – a woman named Sahara – who was now looking to take down Gibbs (Mark Harmon).

It is unclear if Ziva had any contact with Tony after her reported death. De Pablo stated that Ziva and Tony have not seen each other or talked in years, which suggests that he was left in the dark.

But even if Tony knows that Ziva is still alive, there is a strong chance that she has not seen her daughter in several years, especially considering the serious nature of the threat.

‘NCIS’ producer opens up about Ziva’s disappearance

In a recent interview, NCIS executive producer Steve Binder opened up about Ziva’s family life. According to Express, Binder teased that Tony might know Ziva is alive but has not contacted the team about it.

“It’s unknown whether or not she’s been involved with Tony or not,” Binder explained. “But, certainly, if she has, Tony hasn’t called the team up and said she’s alive.”

Binder added that Gibbs is not the only reason Ziva came out of hiding. He also noted that it would take a lot for Ziva to fake her death and go into hiding, a move that abandoned Tali and Tony for years.

Even though Ziva has come out of hiding, she might not contact Tony and Tali until after the threat is eliminated. After all, she would not want to put her family in harm’s way yet again. Unfortunately, this will probably delay her reunion with Tali and Tony, something fans were hoping to see this season.

What did Harmon and de Pablo say about Ziva’s family?

Apart from Binder, Harmon and de Pablo were also asked about Ziva’s reunions this season. With Tony taking care of Tali, the two will likely appear together whenever they reunite with Ziva.

Although we cannot wait to see de Pablo and Weatherly share a few scenes, it might be a little while before the show can work something out with his busy schedule.

Weatherly left the series in season 13 to star on his own show, Bull. Weatherly’s show films at the same time as NCIS, making it difficult to coordinate free time. In fact, Harmon and de Pablo alluded to a scheduling conflict, though they did not say for sure that it won’t happen.

“Michael is a little busy at the moment,” Harmon stated, while de Pablo noted, “He’s shooting a procedural.”

When Tony went to Paris to meet Tali, she was only two years old. She is now around five or six, which means Ziva missed out on a few important years with her daughter.

We won’t know if Tony knew about Ziva’s real fate until after the season 17 premiere. But there is a chance that he knew she was alive this entire time.

This could be why Tony decided to move to France, as this would put a lot of distance between him and the NCIS team. Either way, it sounds like most of our questions will be answered in the season 17 premiere.

Season 17 of NCIS premieres September 24 on CBS.
