‘NCIS:’ Cote de Pablo on Her “Immediate Attraction” to Michael Weatherly

Cote de Pablo surprised fans across the globe when she appeared at the top of Agent Gibbs’ staircase as Ziva David in the final moments of NCIS season sixteen. The woman behind the famous former Mossad Agent, Cote de Pablo starred on NCIS from 2005 until she exited the show in 2015.

Following her departure, fans continued wondering when and if the actress would ever reprise her career-catalyzing role. Citing personal reasons before explaining a lack of respect in terms of Ziva’s narrative  –which became apparent towards the end of her time on the show – Pablo’s return became a pipedream over time.

When signs that Ziva was alive and well began surfacing throughout season sixteen, talk of a Cote de Pablo reemergence from the ashes began sprouting up once more. And, to many fans’ surprise, CBS managed to snag the actress again (at least up until the premiere of season seventeen, for which her appearance has been confirmed).

Whether the producers offered her an impressive sum or promised her character a “fantastic” and compelling future narrative, which she once deemed mandatory to bring her back, is anyone’s guess. However, one thing is for sure: as soon as the excitement surrounding her return began to settle, heads turned to face Michael Weatherly.

Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo’s chemistry on ‘NCIS’

Given that Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo had incomparable chemistry while on NCIS together, fans hope to see them reunited on screen, preferably in the form of a passionate embrace defined by and encompassing the years of bitter separation that have marked their lives ever since.

Cote de Pablo and Michael Weatherly, while starring across from one another, were TV’s hottest will-they-won’t-they dynamic duo. From the moment they appeared on screen together to the moment their relationship came to fruition, everyone watching at home – and standing beside them on set – could sense the sexual tension existing between them. Was it all just acting?

So, how did that chemistry come across so naturally? Why did it seem so effortless? While both Cote de Pablo and Michae Weatherly have denied all rumors concerning a romantic relationship, Cote de Pablo explained to Entertainment Weekly that they did hit it off quite quickly, before venturing into details concerning their “immediate attraction.”

Cote de Pablo explains her “immediate attraction” to Michael Weatherly

During her interview with Entertainment Weekly, Cote de Pablo explained why she and Weatherly worked well across from one another on NCIS. She stated that she and Weatherly initially made incorrect assumptions about one another: he thought she would be difficult to work with, and she felt he would be an unprofessional hassle.

Cote de Pablo goes on to explain that while they may have initially “hated” each other, they grew to love one another, and she explains their dynamic as follows:

“We realized we’re so drastically different and so much alike that there was an immediate attraction.”

Though very different in their approach to work, they share underlying similarities that forged their palpable chemistry. It is as if they somehow prove birds of a feather flock together and opposites attract: they were similar – yet different enough – to hit off, which they did, for nine great seasons.

While fans would love to see “Tiva” (Ziva and Tony) once more on NCIS, Michael Weatherly is currently working on Bull, and likely does not have the time in his schedule to star in another major network series.

Let’s dream that he makes a cameo appearance, and the two receive a spin-off, focusing on their relationship and daughter. For, a Ziva & DiNozzo-inspired series would be the show of a lifetime, and the one we’ve all been waiting for.
