‘NCIS’: Cote de Pablo Reveals Just How Long Ziva Will Be Sticking Around in Season 17
NCIS star Cote de Pablo’s Ziva David is back and better than ever! Ziva played a huge part in the season 17 premiere of NCIS, returning to the team after faking her death five years ago. The premiere, titled “Out of the Darkness,” ended on a pretty big cliffhanger, so we know Ziva will back for episode two. But how many episodes will feature Ziva before season 17 calls it a wrap?
Cote de Pablo reveals all of Ziva’s season 17 cameos
In a new interview, de Pablo opened up about Ziva’s journey this season and revealed how many episodes will include her character.
According to Digital Spy, the NCIS star revealed that Ziva has parts in the first two episodes of the season before returning for two more installments later in the year. That means we’ll get a grand total of four episodes with Ziva.
We would, of course, love to see more of Ziva this season, but we’ll settle with anything beyond the premiere.
“I’m back for two episodes, No.1 and 2 of season 17 and then two more!” de Pablo shared.
De Pablo added that NCIS producers have been thinking about bringing Ziva back ever since she left the series in season 11. They waited until season 16 because they wanted to give the character a strong storyline that tied in with her entire history.
To that end, de Pablo worked with NCIS writer Gina Monreal to craft Ziva’s arc in season 17. The fast-paced premiere left a lot of questions unanswered, but Ziva’s journey this season definitely has connections to the first time we met her.
Inside Ziva’s return to ‘NCIS’
Bishop (Emily Wickersham) was the first person to discover Ziva’s secret last season, followed by Gibbs (Mark Harmon), who was confronted by Ziva in the season 16 finale.
As fans will recall, Ziva appeared in Gibbs’s basement to warn him about a threat on his life. At the time, we did not know anything about the mysterious threat, other than it was serious enough to bring Ziva out of hiding.
The season 17 premiere of NCIS picked up where season 16 left off. Only Ziva and Gibbs never had the opportunity to catch up because they were constantly on the run.
After tracking down the threat – which turned out to be a woman named Sahara – Ziva found herself face-to-face with her enemy in the closing moments of the premiere.
Gibbs pleaded with Ziva to let Sahara live so they could take her in, but the episode closed with the sounds of gunshots. We still don’t know if Ziva killed Zahara, but things are definitely going to get interesting next week.
The rest of the NCIS team, including McGee (Sean Murray) and Torres (Wilmer Valderrama), also found out that Ziva is alive in the premiere. They were unable to help Ziva and Gibbs, however, though that might change in the next installment.
If Ziva does meet up with her old team in the next episode, then we are definitely in for some emotional reunions. That said, there is one reunion that fans are really hoping will happen before season 17 is over.
Fans react to Ziva’s return
As expected, NCIS fans absolutely loved seeing de Pablo back in action. Not only was there a lot of nostalgia surrounding Ziva’s appearance, but the episode was one of the show’s best in recent memory.
We do not know what the future holds for Ziva, but it is clear that fans want to see more of her this season. They also want her to reunite with her lover, Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly).
In fact, fans went crazy on social media when Ziva mentioned Tony’s name to Gibbs. NCIS producers have not confirmed Weatherly’s involvement this season, but they would be crazy not to reunite the characters.
Weatherly left the show in season 13 to star on Bull. His character was written off following the news of Ziva’s death. At the time, Tony found out that he was the father of Ziva’s daughter, Tali, whom he left the country to raise.
Fans can watch Ziva in action when new episodes of NCIS air Tuesday nights on CBS.
