When the original NCIS premiered in 2003, it was an immediate hit with fans and critics alike. It wasn’t long before showrunners decide to expand the universe and created the spinoff NCIS: Los Angeles.

The show debuted in 2009 and featured fan-favorite actors LL Cool J and Chris O’Donnell.  Over the years, NCIS: Los Angeles has welcomed a roster of guest stars and embarked on several long-running plot lines that have intrigued viewers.

Chris O’Donnell plays G. Callen, the Lead Senior Special Agent of the NCIS Office of Special Projects. He has a mysterious past and speaks several different languages, including French, German, and Russian. Callen works closely with Sam Hanna, played by LL Cool J. Hanna is a steady family man who still loves his job and the intense nature of undercover detective work.

Together, Callen and Hanna form the background of the show, and O’Donnell and LL Cool J have become well-known for their portrayals on NCIS: Los Angeles. The actors truly seem to love their characters on the show, and LL Cool J has spoken out in the past about how much he enjoys being a part of a character-driven drama.

What will happen to the characters in Season 11?

In early 2019, NCIS: Los Angeles was renewed for an eleventh season. While much of the storyline has stayed under wraps, recently, a showrunner opened up about what fans can expect to happen to some of the characters.

Executive producer M. Scott Gemmill revealed that the eleventh season is really all about the logical next steps for the characters. Gemmill stated that fans will get to learn about what’s been going on with Mac, played by Catherine Bell, and also that the show will dive deep into Sam Hanna’s emotional state, considering he’s been a widower for several years now.

Gemmill also stated that even though Callen is currently single, an old flame could definitely reappear on the show and make things interesting for him. Fan-favorite Hetty, played by Linda Hunt, is also set to return in Season 11.

Hunt will be a regular on the upcoming season after being absent for much of season ten, and according to a recent news story, she will play an especially important role in the storyline. Still, one popular character won’t be coming back to join the cast – Barrett Foa, who plays Eric Beale, will be taking a hiatus from NCIS: Los Angeles in order to focus on a stage play that he’s working on.

How long will ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ air on television?

It’s too early to tell for sure, but judging by the excitement surrounding the premiere of NCIS: Los Angeles, it seems as though the show has a good chance of running on television for many years to come. After all, it’s parent show, NCIS, has enjoyed one of the longest runs of any television show in history.
