During a 2014 interview with Queen Latifah, Harmon shared how he knew the show was becoming popular. He said he realized NCIS was a hit when he was on vacation in Austria with his wife, Pam Dawber, and he was recognized by fans:

I was just walking with my wife, we were looking in windows, and doing what you do. Next thing I knew, I was looking in a window, and she wasn’t around. I kind of looked around, and I happened to look down the street where we had just come from. And everybody we had passed stopped and was standing there watching. She thought it was funny. She had jumped into an alley and thought it was really funny to watch me.

Although Harmon said he thinks everyone on NCIS is talented, there is one person he thinks elevated the show. In a 2013 interview with Extra, Harmon revealed who he thinks brought the series to life. Who is this special person? Harmon said he believes Cote de Pablo took NCIS to the next level. Here’s what he told Extra:

We got better when Cote got there. We did. It’s not taking anything away from anybody who was there before, but I think Cote came with such a spirit. She loves being there, she’s a team player, she comes hard to do the work, loves the work.

In his Extra interview, Harmon spoke about the chemistry among the NCIS cast and how well they all get along. When the host asked him what he thought of Michael Weatherly, Harmon was honest about how he viewed his former co-star. Harmon said that although Weatherly is funny, he has difficulty being himself. Here’s what Harmon said:

I’m completely proud of Michael. Michael has come a long way. We’ve all changed a lot over 10 years, as you would imagine. Michael is so good. He’s the best, I think, when he’s just Michael. He has a hard time being just Michael. As you know, he likes to be the funny guy all the time. He’s very funny; he has a great sense of humor.
