The upcoming episode of NCIS, titled “…And Executioner,” is almost here, and things are about to get very dangerous for Gibbs (Mark Harmon) and company. The installment will continue the storyline involving the secret bank account, sparking speculation that a hit has been placed on Gibbs. With the NCIS Season 16 finale only weeks away, will Gibbs finally crack under the pressure?
Gibbs faces a difficult situation in Season 16 of ‘NCIS’
Gibbs has been through a lot this season, and the trailer for this week’s episode confirms that things are not getting any easier. Gibbs has struggled with some of his core convictions, learned some awful news about his former fiancée, and discovered that there is a secret vigilante group receiving government funding.
Given everything that has happened this season, Gibbs is quickly coming to the realization that his team might be the only ones on the good side of the law.
According to Carter Matt, the secret bank account shows that somebody high in the government is paying people to murder those who have “failed the city.” This sort of vigilante justice is okay in superhero dramas, but it is not acceptable in the real world.
Even more troubling is the fact that the vigilantes are now starting to target anyone they view as a threat to the organization, which now includes Gibbs. We still do not know who is behind the account, though Wynn Crawford has been linked to it.
Gibbs becomes the primary target
Now that Gibbs knows more about the secret account, his knowledge has made him a target of the vigilante group. After all, whoever is behind the secret account is willing to do everything in their power to keep it concealed, even if that means killing innocent employees.
Gibbs is particularly dangerous because he is basically the best crime solver the NCIS team has ever seen, and once he’s on the trail it is pretty much game over.
In the trailer for the upcoming episode, we learned that Gibbs has a target on his head. Until we know more, we are assuming that the person using the secret bank account is the one who put out the hit.
On the other hand, there is a possibility that the secret account is not related to the hit at all and is simply there to throw everyone off. There are plenty of criminals who would love to see Gibbs dead, and we can’t rule out other scenarios just yet.
How does Gibbs handle the escalating situation?
Considering what Gibbs has experienced so far in Season 16, fans are understandably worried about the coming episode. Steve Binder, an executive producer on the show, didn’t exactly calm those worries when he talked about Gibb’s reaching the point where he loses all functionality.
While it sounds like Gibbs will suffer some kind of breakdown in the coming installment, he will have some help in the form of Dr. Grace Confalone.
The official synopsis revealed that Gibbs will seek help from Dr. Confalone after he leaves his team hanging in the middle of a case.
The episode will also feature the return of Gibbs’ ex-wife, Diane, who was killed way back in Season 12. We can only that Dr. Confalone can help Gibbs sort things out before things get any worse.
Inside the ‘NCIS’ Season 16 finale
Depending on how things turn out in the upcoming episode, there is a chance that Gibbs’ issues linger through the season finale, titled “Daughters.” The installment will see Gibbs helping out Tobias Fornell (Joe Span), who is looking to take out some local drug dealers.
Once again, Gibbs will struggle with a personal connection to the case as his daughter and first wife were killed by drug dealers back in the day.
With most of the season focusing on Gibbs, fans are eager to find out any new information on Ziva’s storyline. It is unclear if Cote de Pablo will actually make an appearance this season, but there is a good chance that we get some information about her character before the season ends.
