During a special CBS interview with Entertainment Tonight host Kevin Frazier, Emily Wickersham shared her thoughts on Bishop and Torres’ relationship. She told Frazier she senses “something is percolating” between the two agents. However, she’s not sure what path the two will take in the future. So, what prompted the NCIS writers to develop a flirty relationship between Bishop and Torres? Wilmer Valderrama says he thinks his off-screen chemistry with Wickersham is what led to the Bishop-Torres connection. The duo have a playful relationship on the set, so they decided to use that chemistry to add a little something extra to Bishop and Torres’ working relationship. Here’s what Valderrama had to say:

I think it all started with the kind of chemistry and the friendship that Emily and I have off the set. We’re kind of class clowns. I was very silly. And somehow, very organically, we kind of just started doing it in scene and finding moments where the characters will connect above the subjects and above what the case was. It’s a lot more interesting for us as actors to just kind of play real life over the procedural case. So that connectivity was really fun. And I think there’s been an interesting development in how connected [Bishop and Torres] are emotionally. I don’t know where it’s going.

NCIS producer and writer Steven D. Binder tackled the question of when or if Torres and Bishop will pursue a romantic relationship. Binder said two big questions have to be answered before he can decide their fate. He also said their relationship will be “horrible.” Here’s what he told Frazier:

The question I ask myself is two things. One is, if it’s gonna go, what’s the moment when it goes? Because that’s gonna be really where the magic happens. And if it goes, what kind of relationship would these two have? Because there’s all kinds of relationships and we’ve been in all kinds. And that’s really the thing we’re trying to figure out. [Torres] is sort of a new character, so we’re still learning a lot about him. But all I can tell you guys is it’s going to be horrible. And by horrible, I mean awesome.
