Who Will Leave ‘NCIS’ Next?
If you regularly watch NCIS, you’ve witnessed quite a few unexpected character departures. For example, fans were shocked when stars Pauley Perrette (who played Abby Sciuto), Michael Weatherly (who played Tony DiNozzo), and Cote de Pablo (who played Ziva David) left the show.
Although NCIS has been renewed for season 17, some of the surprise departures of past seasons has fans wondering who is going to leave the show next. Here’s the likelihood of each NCIS cast member leaving the show in season 17.
Wilmer Valderrama has played Agent Nick Torres on NCIS since 2016. He first appeared on the show in season 14, episode 1, which was titled “Rogue.” It looks like Valderrama will be sticking around. His contract expired at the end of Season 15, but CBS extended his contract for two more years, which means he’ll still be part of the show through Season 17.
Rumors of Mark Harmon’s NCIS departure have been flying for years. However, it seems he’s staying put for now. What would make Harmon leave? In an interview with TV Insider, Harmon said he would exit if the writers ever lost their passion for the job:
Right now, our writers are all very up and excited. You can see it on their faces. Now, if I ever witness them walking into the writers’ room with their heads down, feeling they’ve done it all, that would be the time to say, ‘I think I’m done here.’ But there is still a real feeling of creativity and a sense of reinvention on our set.
Questions about Sean Murray’s (the actor who plays McGee) possible departure have also been a hot topic for some time. Murray recently spoke to Country Living to clear up the rumors. He told the publication he has no plan to leave any time soon since he’s under contract. “I’m under contract right now, so I have no plans to leave the show,” he told the publication. “I don’t think McGee’s going anywhere.”
When it comes to guessing who will leave next, our bets are on David McCallum. He’s had less screen time lately, and his character was recently given a role at NCIS that would require less interaction with the team (NCIS historian). During season 16, McCallum worked a reduced schedule so he could spend more time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and cat Nicky. It’s possible he could transition from acting to a full-time writing career. McCallum released his first book, Once a Crooked Man, in 2016.
The rest of the NCIS cast
Diona Reasonover, who plays Kasie Hines, is a recent cast addition (she joined the cast in 2018), so we would be surprised if she left so soon after joining the show. Her first NCIS appearance was in season 15, episode 17, titled “One Man’s Trash.” The jury is still out when it comes to NCIS cast members Rocky Carroll, Emily Wickersham, Brian Dietzen, and Maria Bello. Only time will tell what what’s next for them.
