‘NCIS’: Why We Don’t Think Phineas Is Sarah’s Son

NCIS” has been full of surprises lately. One of those surprises involved the revelation of Sarah’s identity. Now that we know who Sarah really is, that leaves tons of questions about Phineas. Here’s why we don’t think Phineas is really Sarah’s son.

Sarah said her legacy ended after Ari was killed

During a tense conversation with Ziva, Sarah (later revealed to be Sahar) told her how angry she was after Ziva killed Ari (Ziva’s brother). In a previous episode, Ziva explained to Gibbs that Sarah was rising to power until she killed Ari. Sarah made a very telling statement during her interaction with Ziva. She blamed Ziva for ending the legacy Sarah was building with Ari. “Ari and I had a vision for our people. We were building a legacy. And with one shot, you ended it,” Sarah said.

If Phineas was really Sarah’s son, she wouldn’t have said her legacy is over. Phineas would be the logical choice to carry on Sarah’s legacy. The only conclusion that makes sense here is that Phineas isn’t Sarah’s child. The legacy would continue with him if he was indeed related to her. Sarah’s statement is likely an indication that she is not Phineas’ mother.

Another statement Sarah made that implies Phineas isn’t her son is when she talks about Ziva’s daughter, Tali. Sarah says, “After I kill you, I will find her, and I will end your legacy.” The fact that Sarah says this shows she’s aware that a child is the continuation of a parent’s legacy. She’s knows this, so it’s no mistake that she said her legacy ended with Ari. Her legacy should continue with Phineas, but she doesn’t say this. The only way her legacy doesn’t continue with Phineas is if he is not related to her.

Ziva has been trying to keep Tali a secret because she wants to protect her from harm. She was afraid someone would try to hurt Tali in order to get to Ziva. However, Sarah found out about Tali’s existence during a conversation with Adam. He was near death and was so delirious that he thought Sarah was Ziva. Adam told Sarah that he would protect her daughter, thinking he was making this statement to Ziva.

What will happen to Phineas?

If Sarah is not Phineas’ mother, there are a number of things that could happen. Our first thought is that Gibbs might take Phineas in and adopt him. However, the big problem with this scenario is that Gibbs killed Phineas’ mother so he could save Ziva’s life. If Phineas finds out about this, it could cause a fracture in their relationship. Another possibility is that Ziva could take Phineas back home with her and they could live with Tony and Tali. Yet another possibility is for Phineas’ father to come back and raise him (if he’s even alive).
