‘NCIS’: Will Ziva Break Tony’s Heart?
“NCIS” fans want nothing more than for Ziva (Cote de Pablo) to return to Tony and Tali and begin living a normal, happy life. Is that really possible? Throughout season 17, episode 11, Ziva seems anxious about a reunion, even finding a reason to delay it. Here’s Showbiz Cheat Sheet’s take on the state and future of Tony and Ziva’s relationship.
Ziva has doubts
Throughout season 17, episode 11 (titled “In the Wind”), Ziva seems unsure of her ability to return to the life she had before. She told Gibbs she doesn’t know if she’s ready to go back and live as a “free” woman. Although she says she will be free after helping Gibbs find Phineas, she seems sad about having freedom. It’s as if she wouldn’t even know what to do with that freedom. It’s easy to see on her face how lost and confused she feels. Ziva doesn’t know if life could ever be like it was before.
Will Ziva leave Tony behind for good?
Ziva has been so used to living without Tony (Michael Weatherly) that it’s possible she might consider remaining without him. We’re reminded by Orly in season 13, episode 24 (titled “Family First”), that Ziva is a very independent person. She could take Tali back and decide to start over with just her daughter.
Will Ziva decide to leave it all behind and live alone?
Although Ziva loves Tali, there’s also a possibility she could skip a reunion altogether and continue living alone. It’s mentioned in season 17, episode 10 that Ziva suffers from anxiety. The trauma of giving up her daughter and then being on the run for so many years changed who she is. She was no longer a mother and partner, but a woman on the run, fighting for her life.
Ziva expressed her fears that Tali probably doesn’t even remember who she is or what she looks like. She is so afraid of being rejected by Tali that she starts to ponder worst-case scenarios. Ziva shared her worries with Gibbs, asking him if she could ever return to a normal life. “I have spent years looking over my shoulder. You know, like a combat vet. Trying to return to some sense of normal. As a mother, as a partner, but can I?” asked Ziva. Gibbs says she can. However, Ziva doesn’t agree. “No. I’m not so sure. My anxiety did not die with Sahar. What if I’m too damaged to go back to who I was?”
Ziva says anxiety is one of her demons
Ziva opened up to Gibbs about her anxiety. Things got bad for her while she was in hiding. Until she deals with the overwhelming anxiety, Ziva may never be able to move on from the trauma she experienced. She might decide to struggle with this anxiety “demon” on her own and stay away from Tali and Tony. We know Ziva tends to be very protective of others, and she might decide the best thing for her family is to stay away and deal with her demons on her own.
