You Have to Watch Netflix’s ‘Always Be My Maybe’ Trailer to the Very End

Netflix has been ramping up its original productions over the last couple of years, especially when it comes to romantic comedies. Now, the full-length trailer for Always Be My Maybe has dropped, and there are a lot of twists and turns considering the genre. In fact, there’s one major reveal — but you have to watch all the way to the end of it. Let’s dive into the trailer and talk about that amazing cameo.

Who are the stars of Always Be My Maybe?

The film stars Ali Wong and Randall Park as childhood friends who reunite. Unlike many romcoms, where two actors often have to force a connection on screen, Park and Wong have been working together for a long time. In fact, Wong was a writer for the sitcom Fresh Off the Boat, on which Park plays one of the central characters.

In addition to being a writer, Wong is a standup comedian and actress. She has been working a lot with Netflix lately: Both of her comedy specials, Baby Cobra and Hard Knock Wife, aired on the streaming service, and she has appeared on series Bill Nye Saves the World and Ugly Delicious. She also provides the voice of one of the titular characters in the new animated series Tuca & Bertie.

As for Park, he’s a rom-com veteran, appearing in supporting roles in films like They Came Together and Trainwreck. In addition to Fresh Off the Boat, he has an extensive TV resume, with recurring roles on series such as The Mindy Project and Veep. Park pulled off an impressive feat when he entered both the Marvel and DC film universes in the same year, with roles in Ant-Man and the Wasp and Aquaman.

What is the film about?

Always Be My Maybe, which is co-written by both Park and Wong, got its name from the Mariah Carey hit “Always Be My Baby,” which plays in the trailer. The premise revolves around Wong’s Sasha Tran, an engaged celebrity chef who moves back to San Francisco to help with the opening of a new restaurant. She then comes face to face with her old pal, Marcus Kim, who she has drifted apart from.

The hilarious trailer shows that the two have known each other since they were young, and even had a romantic connection in their teen years. They are able to pick up their friendship again, but when Sasha’s fiance breaks up with her, she starts dating again, and Marcus realizes he still has feelings for her.

The hilarious cameo you have to stick around for

It’s a two-minute and 43-second trailer, so there’s a lot going on here. Just as Marcus looks like he’s about to come clean with Sasha about how he feels, she springs her own news on him: She’s met someone, and it’s — well, see for yourself.

Did you watch it? Yup, that’s right: John Wick star Keanu Reeves is playing Sasha’s new love interest, and they appear to have a very intense intimate relationship. We get a tiny preview at the end of the trailer of what’s bound to be one of the funniest scenes in the movie, and it’s definitely worth waiting for it. We’ll have to see what comes of it all when the flick drops on Netflix on May 31, 2019.
