Netflix’s ‘Dead to Me’ Renewed, Will End With Season 3

From its first episode, Dead to Me hooked viewers in with Christina Applegate’s grumpy character Jen and Linda Cardellini’s free-spirited Judy. Like two secretive peas in a pod, Jen and Judy have committed crimes, weathered meltdowns, and supported one another.

Their indescribable friendship survived two deaths, Judy’s grief ruse, and a police investigation. But the course is changing for Dead to Me, and fans will need to say goodbye to the Netflix hit.

‘Dead to Me’ renewed for final season

It is the last dance for Dead to Me. The series was renewed for a third season but will bow out by wrapping up Jen and Judy’s story. That goes for Ben and Steve too.

Deadline reported the news and noted Dead to Me creator /showrunner Liz Feldman was given an overall deal with Netflix to keep creating content for the streamer.

About the show’s end, Feldman stated:

From start to finish, Dead to Me is exactly the show I wanted to make. And it’s been an incredible gift,” she said. “Telling a story sprung from grief and loss has stretched me as an artist and healed me as a human. I’ll be forever indebted to my partners in crime, my friends for life, Christina and Linda, and our brilliantly talented writers, cast and crew. I am beyond grateful to Netflix for supporting Dead to Me from day one, and I’m thrilled to continue our collaboration.

Season 2 ended on a cliffhanger

If there’s one thing Jen and Judy are good at besides downing wine, it’s diving headfirst into serious mischief. We mean mischief that goes beyond facepalms and of a caliber that can send them straight to prison.

By the end of season 2, Steve’s body was a problem again. From the pool to the freezer to the woods, they just couldn’t shake him.

To top that off, the ladies were in a hit-and-run accident with Ben, who was drunk and fled the scene. So many questions and so many lies need explanations.

Will Jen and Judy face the music together? Will Ben learn the truth? What about curious Charlie and curious Nick? Will there be more glorious wisdom from Shandy?

Fans are eager to learn how the two besties will fare against new odds, but know it will be done with a one-two punch of laughter and drama.

When is ‘Dead to Me’ season 3 expected?

Dead to Me Season 2 was released in May, and given the obvious circumstances with COVID-19, the series won’t start production anytime soon. Applegate confirmed as much with her tweet thanking fans for their support of the show.

Cardellini also tweeted her thanks and to express her excitement for the next installment. “So excited for a season 3! Congrats to @thelizfeldman and to our entire hardworking @deadtome family. Big thanks to everyone who watched. Love to you all,” she wrote.

Season 3 will take time, but until then, viewers can binge watch both seasons and become flies on the wall of Jen and Judy’s zany friendship.
