Everything We Know (And Don’t Know) About Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’

Fans of the fantasy genre are looking forward to Netflix’s The Witcher. Yet at the moment the show is a bit of a mystery. Though there are some things we know about it, there are far more that we don’t know.

We know that Geralt of Rivia, portrayed by Henry Cavill, is a witcher and the protagonist of the story. He is always busy hunting monsters. We also know that Yennefer of Vengerburg, portrayed by Anya Chalotra, and Ciri, portrayed by Freya Allan, are integral to the story.

What else do we know and what do we not know? Find out, ahead.

What do we know about Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’?

We won’t get too much into what the story is going to be about, as we’ve already done so. For now, all you need to know is that it follows Geralt on his adventures and that Yennefer and Ciri are involved as well. It is also based on the books by Andrzej Sapkowski.

The story is very interesting and will likely appeal to many fantasy fans, as well as those who are not usually interested in the genre. While it shouldn’t be compared to Game of Thrones too much, the worlds are both full of morally grey characters. According to the showrunner, Lauren Hissrich, “there isn’t really a villain. One of the things we’re enjoying exploring is all the shades of grey in the [story].”

Hissrich believes that fans will have a hard time figuring out which characters to root for. She says, ” your allegiance switches a lot” while watching. She also says that fans will “end up having a lot of empathy for characters [they] didn’t expect to.”

What else do we know about ‘The Witcher’?

We know that the show is meant to be premiering some time this year. The first season will have 8 episodes. It may seem far too short for some fans, especially those who will be binge-watching, yet it is not unheard of for a show to start out with a short first season and then expand. There have also been new photos released recently that showcase the main characters Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri.

These photos also show fans a pretty cool-looking claw. Yet these pictures don’t give that much information away. The show is still somewhat shrouded in mystery.

What do we not know about Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’…yet?

As we’ve mentioned, the show is somewhat mysterious. We know that it takes place in a fantasy world. We know that it follows mainly Geralt, but that Yennefer and Ciri are important as well. The characters are very morally grey and fans won’t always know who to root for.

Yet that isn’t much information when you think about it. We don’t even really know when the show will be released, though it’s rumored based on something Netflix posted and then deleted in September that it will be released on December 17th. Well, perhaps that secrecy is all about to change. According to The Witcher’s Instagram and Twitter accounts, posted today, a trailer is coming tomorrow, October 31st.

So get ready, Witcher fans. Because perhaps after the trailer, we will all know more. Either way, it’s exciting to see the first trailer since the teaser during Comic-Con.
