5 New Must-See TV and Movie Trailers: ‘Luke Cage’ and More
Trailers are as much a part of the movie-going experience nowadays as the films themselves. There’s something incomparably exciting about seeing what amounts to a two-minute sizzle reel of a release’s best scenes. It’s why trailer culture has proliferated into what it is today, and makes it so even the release date of a short teaser is a day to look forward to. In the spirit of this, our team gathers together the best the internet has to offer, delivering all the TV and movie trailers and teasers you can possibly handle in one place every week.
1. Underworld: Blood Wars
Underworld may not be the most critically beloved franchise out there, and yet it keeps chugging along, making just enough money to continue justifying more sequels. The latest in that line will be Underworld: Blood Wars, which brings back Kate Beckinsale, along with a surprisingly solid cast of Charles Dance, Theo James, and Tobias Menzies.
It certainly won’t win any awards for its story, but there’s lot to love in terms of its flashy action sequences and storied history. And hey, you could do a lot worse (looking at you, Resident Evil).
2. Luke Cage
We’re fast approaching the Season 1 premiere for Luke Cage, and already we’re seeing critical buzz labeling it Netflix’s best Marvel series yet. The rest of us have a brand new clip of our titular hero kicking ass and taking names, dispatching a group of thugs without even breaking a sweat. It seems safe to assume that Marvel is primed to strike gold once again, especially coming off a strong debut for Jessica Jones in 2015. Pretty soon, Netflix may find themselves with more amazing superhero shows than they know what to do with (which in all honesty, is a pretty great problem to have all told).
3. Beauty and the Beast
Disney’s first trailer for Beauty and the Beast shattered all sorts of records when it first appeared on YouTube, so suffice it to say, the hype is real right now. With Emma Watson assuming the iconic lead role, it’s no wonder either. The studio is coming off a strong release for their last live-action adaptation of The Jungle Book, and their next project could very well overshadow even that.
Above we have a short featurette showing us footage from a table read of the film, teasing at a longer version hidden in the special features of the anniversary release of the original Beauty and the Beast.
Gotham numbers itself as the most patently insane of all superhero TV shows, playing fast and loose with the Batman narrative in every way, shape, and form. At its core though, it’s the story of Jim Gordon, and his rise from a Gotham beat cop to the fully-formed commissioner we know him as today. Things aren’t going so well for Gordon in Season 3 though, having left the police force to pursue a career in tracking down the city’s weirdest and wildest villains for money. How he’ll navigate his way back to the Gotham PD is anyone’s guess, but we imagine we’ll find out sometime soon.
5. Amanda Knox
The story of Amanda Knox is one that to this day, we don’t have all the facts on. Even after being acquitted for murder charges in Italy, there are plenty of question marks concerning what went down the night her friend was brutally slain. Netflix’s upcoming documentary will seek to answer those questions, releasing two dueling trailers: One defending her innocence, and the other her guilt. If the film takes a similar tact, it’ll be an interesting journey through all the evidence we have, hopefully leading to an impartial and final answer to one, simple question: Is Amanda Knox innocent?
