New ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ Details Revealed in Official Book
A new Star Wars book has revealed some juicy details about The Last Jedi.
Star Wars: Absolutely Everything You Need to Know, Updated and Expanded hit bookshelves on Tuesday. This is essentially a Star Wars encyclopedia, and it was originally released back in 2015, but this 2017 version contains information from some of the newer pieces of Star Wars content, including The Last Jedi.
Of course, the book steers clear of major spoilers, but there are still a few interesting tidbits in it. First of all, it confirms that Supreme Leader Snoke has the power of telepathy. A page on the First Order says, “Among Snoke’s many frightening powers are telepathy and Force chokes and throws!” There had previously been theories that Snoke can use telepathy and that he talked to Rey in The Force Awakens. In the novelization, Rey hears a voice on Starkiller Base telling her to kill Kylo Ren and give into her hatred, which some fans theorize was actually the voice of Supreme Leader Snoke. We still don’t know if that’s the case, but this book has at least confirmed that he has this power.
Speaking of the First Order, the book states that eight Praetorian Guards protect Supreme Leader Snoke. This may invalidate the theory that the Knights of Ren and the Praetorian Guards are one in the same, as there were only six Knights of Ren in The Force Awakens. In addition, the book confirms that the Praetorian Guards are human, ruling out theories that they might be droids or aliens.
Next, the book confirms that Luke Skywalker has been in exile on Ahch-To for a while, noting that he’s been there “for many years.” It doesn’t provide any specific timetable, but fans had been debating how long Luke was on the island and had speculated that maybe it wasn’t as long as was assumed. This book confirms that he’s been on Ahch-To for at minimum two years and probably even longer.
We get a few fun details about Canto Bight in here as well. This casino apparently has stained glass windows that are decorated with racing fathiers, a Star Wars horse-esque alien creature. In one set leak from last year, Rose and Finn are seen riding on a fathier, presumably while escaping Canto Bight. Also, this book confirms that Canto Bight is located on a planet called Cantonica.
Finally, the book makes mention of the fact that Rose Tico, a new character in the film, has “hated the First Order since her childhood,” potentially suggesting that some sort of tragedy struck as a kid that would make her despise the First Order even more than other characters. This will likely make her relationship with Finn a bit complicated considering he is a former stormtrooper for the First Order. That detail may also be telling because the threat of the First Order wasn’t even widely understood in the galaxy until not long before The Force Awakens, perhaps suggesting a member of Rose’s family was a part of the organization or had some sort of run in with them.
These are all of the new The Last Jedi details we have for now, but we’ll learn much more about the movie next week, as Disney is rumored to be releasing a full trailer on Oct. 9.
