Nicki Minaj Pulls Out of BET Experience after Grammys Tweet

For many stars, the Grammys were a night to remember. Some people lost awards that they were shoo-ins to win while others won their first Grammys.

Rapper Cardi B was one of those winners. On Sunday night, she won her first Grammy and became the first solo female rapper to be awarded a Grammy for best rap album.

After the awards, BET tweeted an article about Cardi’s win along with the words “Meanwhile, Nicki Minaj is being dragged by her lacefront.”

The outlet was probably referring to the ongoing feud between Minaj and Cardi and the fact that Minaj has yet to win a Grammy.

The Response

Though BET deleted the tweet, Minaj’s fans had already captured screenshots and sent them to the star.

After seeing the tweet, Minaj took to Twitter herself to announce that she and Young Money would not be participating in BET’s upcoming concert, the BET Experience.

“Young Money will no longer be a part of the BET Experience or award show,” Minaj tweeted.

Lil’ Wayne has also decided not to participate in the show in light of these tweets.

Fan Reactions

Nicki Minaj’s fans were quick to retaliate against BET, writing comment after comment defending Minaj on the outlet’s Instagram page.

The rapper reposted screenshots of some of the comments along with the caption” Dang @bet still getting dragged by that lace.”

She later tweeted thanking her fans for coming to her defense.

“I can’t thank you guys enough for all the love & support you continue to show me,” she tweeted.”To everyone who said something sweet, thank you. Whether I read it or not, I felt it. From the bottom of my heart. I love you so much. So so so soooo much. Stay tuned.”

The Apology

After Minaj pulled out of the show, BET released a statement apologizing for their tweet.

“BET loves Nicki Minaj,” the statement read. “We have supported her from the very beginning of her career and will continue to do so moving forward. Nicki has paved the way for so many performers and has solidified her place as one of the most powerful figures in the music industry.”

“Unfortunately the respect we have for Nicki was violated by this post that should never have been written. The post does not reflect how we feel about Nicki. And further does not reflect our company values. We deeply apologize for the hurt, disappointment and confusion that this post has caused. We are committed to doing everything we can to address the situation.”

The station promised to get to the bottom of what happened.

“We are also conducting an internal audit to assure these types of posts are not published again. We have apologized to Nicki and her team. The post has been removed and we have taken additional appropriate action. We understand Nicki’s position and look forward to continuing our dialogue with her. Finally, we apologize to all of her fans. This should have never happened.”

Minaj has not responded to the statement or said whether she plans to rejoin the show’s lineup.
