Nicki Minaj Sounds Off On Those Critical of Her Love With Kenneth ‘Zoo’ Petty
It’s no secret that Nicki Minaj is in love. Her Instagram page is full of PDA shots of her and her man, Kenneth “Zoo” Petty. Although the two first went public in December 2018, they’ve known each other for years.
Minaj, who in the past has said that she prefers to keep her love life private, has dealt with backlash from fans who don’t think Petty is a good fit for her. In the past few weeks, rumors started swirling that the rap star is engaged since she told Queen Radio podcast listeners that she and her boo applied for a marriage license.
Just this week, Minaj got people talking about her verse on Chance The Rapper’s song, “Zanies and Fools,” because she dropped a line saying, “’Bout to walk down the aisle and be a mommy.” These days, Minaj is ride-or-die for her beau and in defense mode about their relationship. So, what is the big deal and why is she addressing haters?
The background on Petty
According to People, Minaj has known Petty since they were teens. They’re both from Queens, NY, and dated when she was 16. Minaj, 36, and Petty, 41, still found a connection after all the time and lovers that have passed since they first met. She’s referred to her beau as her soulmate.
What peeved many of Minaj’s fans was the news that Petty has an extensive criminal record. He’s a registered sex offender in New York stemming from a first-degree attempted rape charge of a 16-year-old female. Petty, age 16 at the time, was convicted in 1995 for that crime and served time in prison. Years later, he was later convicted for manslaughter in 2006 for the death of Lamont Robinson, pleading down from the original 2002 second-degree murder charge. He was released from prison in 2013 and was on supervised released until May 2018. These days, it’s said that he works as a music industry executive and has five children.
Minaj chastises haters who doubt her relationship for its realness
On her Friday episode of Queen Radio, Minaj scolded naysayers who have been critical of Petty and her love for him. E! News reports that the rapper said:
“When a person is with a n***a that loved them before they had a dime in their pocket? How do you not understand that? How do you not understand happiness vs clout? How f***king dare you talk about lowering standards.”
She went on, adding that material things are less important than true love, “It’s the truth, money cannot buy me happiness and good sex.”
Plenty of Minaj’s fans are happy for her union with Petty, commenting on social media about how protective he is of her and that they’re glad she’s found the Ken to her Barbie. If her social media posts and latest lyrics are any indication, Minaj could soon be headed to the altar with Petty. While she loves her fans, we’re not sure if she’d share wedding or pregnancy scoop with the public right away. But for now, she wants all her haters to sit down as she continues to do as she pleases. That means more PDA-filled posts.
