Nikki Bella Spills About Her First Date With Artem Chigvintsev
Reality star and former WWE wrestler Nikki Bella has been showing a lot of PDA with former Dancing With The Stars pro Artem Chigvintsev. Bella, who split with fiancé John Cena last year, started dating the dancer last December. She recently shared some details about their first date.
Met while competing for the mirrorball
Bella joined ABC’s reality competition Dancing With The Stars in 2016 during Season 25 and was partnered with Chigvintsev. The former WWE wrestler was engaged to Cena at the time, where the actor was even discussing dancing tips with the pro for his upcoming wedding. “As far as dancing, I think he’s probably gonna teach me my first dance,” Cena said, according to Us Weekly. “So hopefully I’ll be able to take those tips from him there.”
Bella and Cena went through a highly publicized breakup in 2018. Bella recently commented on overcoming the loss of their relationship on her podcast, and said she still considers Cena an important person in her life. “With John, I have unconditional love for him. My love, it goes beyond being a boyfriend, a fiancé, all those different things,” she said on The Bellas Podcast, according to Entertainment Tonight. “He truly feels like family. I’ll never stop loving him, rooting him on, supporting him, protecting him.”
The reality star reconnected with Chigvintsev in December 2018, going public with their dating status in the new year.
Fleeing on the first date
Bella recently spoke to Entertainment Tonight and recounted her first romantic outing with Chigvintsev. “Our first date was at the farmer’s market in Studio City, and I had no idea that it was filled with paparazzi,” she said. “So Artem and I are, like, looking at vegetables — and I honestly think he was picking up tomatoes — and I see a paparazzi in this corner, and one in the other corner and I just freaked.”
The Total Bellas star got so flustered, she chose to duck and run. Well, walk. “I walked away from him, all the way to my car that was parked at Von’s and I drove off. And poor Artem, all of a sudden I get a text like, ‘Uhh, where did you go?’ I didn’t even say anything,” Bella shared.
Chigvintsev gave his side of the story, where he apparently thought he may have made some sort of misstep that upset Bella. “I’m [with] a basket of vegetables, just standing there, thinking, ‘Did she [go] somewhere? What happened?'” the dancing pro said. “And I’m seeing, like, a shadow crossing the road and almost running. So I’m like, ‘Did I do something wrong?'”
The two evidently smoothed things out since they are almost at their one year anniversary and still going strong.
Chigvintsev has made headlines recently due to not being asked back for the upcoming season of Dancing With The Stars. He told Entertainment Tonight last month that Bella has been incredibly supportive of him through the stinging professional disappointment.
“I think Nicole came into my life at the right time. She’s been nothing but supportive, and is the most positive person! I’ve been so down for the first couple of days, it really was like my world was turned upside down and she’s never seen me like this,” the pro dancer said. “This job was always there for me, for so many years. My personal life has always been up and down, but I could always rely on work because it’s always been there for me.”
Chigvintsev also shared that Bella has given him encouragement where he needs it the most. “She’s been constantly giving me advice, like pep talks, from her own experiences. She’s been like, ‘Look, it’s not the end of the world.’ I left my family when I was 15 and I never had a person next to me that kind of had an interest in me to succeed and be better. I think she’s the first person that’s given me that feeling,” he said.
From their mutual praise of each other, it’s obvious these two will be having a very happy anniversary!
