Nikki Bella Talks About Having This Infertility Issue and Her Desire To Have Kids
Reality star/retired WWE wrestler Nikki Bella and former Dancing With The Stars pro Artem Chigvintsev are still going strong after approximately a year into their romance. Now with questions of marriage and kids starting to become topics of conversation between the two, Bella recently shared her thoughts on having children and her diagnosis of this infertility issue.
Bella and Chigvintsev were paired as dance partners on ABC’s reality competition Dancing With The Stars on Season 25. Their relationship moved off the dance floor after Bella’s split from fiancé John Cena last year. In an interview with Health Magazine, Bella revealed how her new romance is helping her become more authentic.
“In past relationships, I feel like I was always trying to be perfect and was walking on eggshells because I didn’t want to upset that other person or make them leave me,” Bella shared. “Artem is the first person I’ve been with where I feel like I can be Nicole and never fear he’s going to leave me for it.”
The reality star is enjoying the freedom she’s discovered with Chigvintsev, where she doesn’t need to hold back her true self. “We all have a little crazy in us, and he loves my crazy,” Bella said. “He’s also the first person I’ve communicated everything I feel with. Brie [her twin sister] was saying I’m almost too honest with him. But I’d rather him know everything.”
Putting Chigvintsev on the spot
During an episode of The Bellas Podcast in September. Bella decided to spring the topic of children on Chigvintsev, asking how many kids he would like to have one day.
“You know what? I’ve never thought about exact number, but the only thing I can compare it to is obviously my parents and what they have,” the DWTS alum replied, according to E! News. “They have two of us. It’s me and my brother… If I have to throw a number, I would probably say two because that’s how I grew up and I had a good relationship with my brother.”
Bella took the conversation even further, asking if he wanted a to have a child with her, where he replied, “That’s so cute! Um, yeah!”
Upon Chigvintsev’s response, Bella went in to family planning mode. “I want twins. I want a boy and a girl and I want to knock it out all at once,” she said. “I want an epidural right when I get into labor. I don’t want to feel anything. Those are the things I want.”
In her interview with Health, Bella revealed that she just discovered she suffers from polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), which affects fertility. Due to her diagnosis and her age, the reality star chose to make a proactive decision.
“I definitely want to be a mom one day, but I don’t want it now. I’m in this unfortunate situation where I’m 36 and everyone is reminding me, ‘Your eggs, your eggs!’ So I’m freezing my eggs,” she shared. “I also found out I have PCOS—it kills your fertility.”
Bella went on to describe some of the effects of the health issue. “I’m getting brown spots all over my face, acne, weight fluctuations, and hair loss. I actually just found out and was devastated,” she said. “You research it, and there is no cure. I just pray I have some fertile eggs left and that I can still be a mom.”
For now, Bella is looking forward to potentially starting a family though she’s uncertain of the timing. “I do feel like being a mom is in my future,” she said. “I am just not sure how soon.”
