Nina Dobrev Once Said Marvel Star Paul Rudd Is ‘So Good’ at Karaoke: ‘I Didn’t Want to Go After He Went Up’

What actors do when they’re on location filming movies or TV shows is largely a mystery. That is unless they post about it on social media or are spotted out and about. There’s also the possibility they talk about it during an interview.

Nina Dobrev, who once did the latter, might think twice about going out for a night of karaoke with Ant-Man star Paul Rudd again. The 30-year-old best known for playing Elena Gilbert and Katherine Pierce on The Vampire Diaries recalled during a 2015 interview, a night out in Atlanta, Georgia, with the Marvel actor.

Playing a main character on TVD, Dobrev became familiar with Georgia because that’s where production on the teen show took place. Spending six seasons playing Elena and Catherine and until her 2015 departure, Dobrev had plenty of time to explore the state.

Paul Rudd’s spent time there too

This is where Dobrev and Rudd’s paths cross. They were both in Georgia for different projects. Rudd had been there filming  Marvel’s 2015 movie, Ant-Man.

According to Explore Georgia, production on the film took place in and around Atlanta. Rudd returned to the state for a sequel; 2018’s Ant-Man and the Wasp. Plus, many other Marvel movies have been filmed in Georgia, including Avengers: Endgame

They went out for a night of karaoke

What do actors do on a night off from filming? They head to a karaoke bar. At least, that’s what Dobrev, Rudd, and a few others did when they were on location in Georgia. Dobrev remembered going out for karaoke during a conversation with fellow actor Michael Peña, who starred in Ant-Man alongside Rudd.

Nina Dobrev says she didn’t want to sing karaoke after Paul Rudd: ‘He was so good’

During their 2015 conversation for Interview, Dobrev said she “did a lot of karaoke in Atlanta.” She and Peña talked highly of Rudd’s karaoke skills.

“That dude is a beast on the karaoke machine,” Peña said of Rudd.

To which Dobrev responded, “He killed all of us. I didn’t want to go after he went up. He was so good.”

Unfortunately, the TVD actor didn’t provide more details about being Rudd’s follow-up act but she did say “he’s talented at everything.”

Paul Rudd showcased his karaoke skills on ‘The Howard Stern Show’

The Ant-Man star’s karaoke chops aren’t necessarily a secret. When he’s not belting out songs on location, he’s demonstrating his karaoke skills during interviews.

In a 2019 spot on The Howard Stern Show, he sang Glen Campbell’s “Wichita Lineman,” which just so happens to be the actor’s “favorite song of all time.”

He also revealed why he might be so good at karaoke; practice. He has a karaoke machine at home.

Now we know what Rudd does when he’s not portraying Scott Lang or Ant-Man in Marvel movies.
