Oprah, Snoop Dogg, and More Celebrities-Turned-Cooks You Might Not Know About
Celebrities might become famous for one thing, but they almost always expand to other avenues throughout their careers. And many celebrities have turned to food and cooking as another business venture. You might be surprised how many celebrities have also become famous in the kitchen.
Oprah Winfrey has built herself an empire in many areas, and food is no exception. In 2017, she released a cookbook and now has her own line of specialty foods in grocery stores. The brand, called O, That’s Good!, features pizzas, soups, and sides. She also owns a 10% stake in Weight Watchers, the points-based weight loss system, and is a spokeswoman for the brand.
Snoop Dogg might be known for both his rap and cannabis obsessions, but he’s also a serious foodie. In August 2018, Snoop unveiled that he’ll be releasing his first cookbook, From Crook to Cook, in October 2018. He also currently hosts a television show with Martha Stewart, Martha and Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party.
The supermodel-turned-cook released a well-received cookbook in 2016 titled Cravings. Many people know Chrissy as a high-fashion model, so the release of her cookbook helped her show herself as a normal person who still enjoys delicious food despite her demanding career. The supermodel has a second cookbook slated for September 2018.
Trisha Yearwood started out as an award-winning singer, but today, she has her own television show on Food Network. Trisha’s Southern Kitchen chronicles what Yearwood’s life is like cooking for family and friends. And her show keeps it real — she sometimes makes mistakes, but everything is on camera for the regular person to see that cooking is supposed to be fun, not perfect.
Olivia Newton John
Olivia Newton John is known for more than just her iconic role in Grease — she’s also a cookbook author. John released her cookbook, Livwise, back in 2011 to help people cook their own nutritional recipes for a healthy, happy life. She discusses her own beliefs in the importance of maintaining a healthy diet and eating nutritionally valuable foods.
Gwyneth Paltrow has published several cookbooks in addition to having a successful acting career. The reviews of her most recent book were mixed, but Paltrow is known for having a very strict diet (think: gluten free, sugar free, etc.). But she makes an effort to simplify recipes for any busy person to be able to make, so we applaud that, despite whether or not some recipes are better than others.
Patti LaBelle has found success as a celebrity-turned-cook with cookbooks and a cooking show on The Cooking Channel. Patti LaBelle’s Place shares LaBelle’s home-cooked meals and often features celebrity guests. She also offers several recipes on her website for home cooks to try, and the singer shows no signs of slowing down.
Actor Tony Danza published an Italian cookbook with his son, Mark, back in 2008. The chef shared family recipes such as homemade meatballs and zesty sauce, and made several television appearances to discuss the cookbook and its contents.
There’s something awesome about a reggae star publishing a cookbook. In this case, Ziggy Marley, the son of Bob Marley, tried his hand at cooking and published a cookbook that went back to his Jamaican roots. It features recipes such as Jerk chicken and Caribbean salsa — something a little different in the world of celebrity cooking.
Kris Jenner is part-time momager, part time cook. In the Kitchen with Kris: A Collection of Kardashian-Jenner Family Favorites, is a cookbook featuring nearly 70 of the Kardashian-Jenner family’s all-time favorite recipes. The cookbook is technically a cookbook and entertainment guide, and Kris gives tips about cooking and entertaining in addition to her family recipes.
