Orange Is The New Black star, Taryn Manning, found herself in the news today after she slammed the hit Netflix show and her fellow castmates. In a long, rambling, Instagram post, Manning addressed the concerns that she had with the show, its effect on her life, and how she was treated by her castmates. Fans were shocked to read this harsh criticism just days after the final season had been released. But, soon after the egregious post, Manning claimed she was hacked and rescinded her statements. But is there any truth to this claim?
Manning Slams OITNB
“This show hurt me more than anything has in my life and if this is what I have to do to push what I stand for I will. I have to speak out before anything happens to me. Fu*k fame! This show hurt humans. You will never truly know but many were hurt! Just Imagine the ones you never saw again. You think that felt good for them,” Manning wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post.
The Instagram rant continues
“I do not need to ever work again in this town. I’ve been dropped by everyone for having a backbone. I was dropped because a person terrorizes me daily and them too. So my team, they just turn away. Like a car accident. Rubberneck but don’t help. Fu*k show biz. A disgrace. Laugh away, I am right and you know it. Any rude comments I laugh at. Get off my page if you don’t like me. Not one cast member cares about me,” Manning continued, calling out the lack of support she felt on set.
Very soon after Manning posted this rambling rant, she deleted the post and posted a new image of her and a fellow castmate. “My account was so epically hacked. I am back in and I am sorry,” she posted in the caption. She also took the time to update her Instagram bio to reflect the alleged hack. “My account is hacked and I am sorry for these messages :( I am back in now and was able to erase,” Manning wrote. But, was Manning really hacked or is she just trying to cover her tracks?
Something doesn’t add up
Of course, there’s no way for us to prove if the actress was hacked on not. But there are a few things that seem very fishy about claiming that she was hacked. The first is the level of detail that the deleted rant contained. There were a lot of very specific callouts and criticisms that only Manning would have unless she was hacked by a close friend or family member with whom she shares all of her grievances. Otherwise, why would a random hacker have this level of information or specificity?
Another hole to poke in Manning’s story is the motivation behind the hack. We won’t pretend to understand the minds of hackers, but typically hackers will post private photos of the celebrity, useless images, or follow/unfollow random people. They will even make threats to the celebrity and demand money before they begin to delete photos or videos. It seems that this behavior isn’t exactly in line with what happened to Manning. The idea of a hacker taking the time to hack into the actress’ account, craft this rant, and share it with Manning’s 1 million followers seems a bit farfetched.
The end of Orange Is The New Black
Again, we won’t claim to truly know the truth about the situation. If Taryn Manning truly was hacked, we feel for her because the rant truly has the power to damage her career. As for Orange Is The New Black fans, they seem mostly split about whether they believe Manning’s claims that she was hacked. Luckily for her, the show has ended, so this scandal can’t affect her tenure on the show. We’ll have to wait and see if it affects her career in the long-term.
