Orlando Bloom Was Name-Dropped In This Pop Star’s Song — And It’s Not Katy Perry
Prolific actor Orlando Bloom was something of a young heartthrob when he broke out in Hollywood in the early 00s. Now, he’s starring in a new TV series, Carnival Row, on Amazon. But his past has come back to haunt him. Here’s the pop song that features his name — and no, it doesn’t come from his fiance, singer Katy Perry.
How did Orlando Bloom become famous?
The actor first rose to prominence the elf, Legolas, in the Lord of the Rings film trilogy. Not long after, Bloom began to appear in other notable action films, such as Black Hawk Down and Troy. He soon attached himself to another major franchise, the Pirate of the Caribbean movies, appearing in the first three films.
Bloom’s career shifted slightly as he starred in romantic comedies like Elizabeth Town and New York, I Love You. He returned to his roots when he appeared in the Lord of the Rings prequel films The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and The Battle of the Five Armies. More recently, Bloom has taken on dramatic roles in films such as Romans and the forthcoming war epic The Outpost.
Bloom just discovered a throwback name drop
In a recent Vanity Fair interview, Bloom’s Carnival Row co-star Cara Delevingne gave him a polygraph test. Most of the questions were fairly easy ones about roles that he’s played, though one did shock him quite a bit.
Delevingne asked, “Has it ever been brought to your attention that you’re name-dropped in the Hannah Montana [theme] song “Best of Both Worlds”? Bloom replied, “No,” and then they played the moment from the track. Bloom was very surprised, exclaiming “Oh my god! That’s crazy!”
Here’s the song in question
If you aren’t familiar, Hannah Montana was a Disney Channel show that aired from 2006-2011. Miley Cyrus portrayed Miley Stewart, a teenage girl who lived an ordinary life by day and donned a blonde wig by night as pop star Hannah Montana, all while keeping her real identity a secret. The theme song is about the benefits of this lifestyle.
In case you’d like to be surprised like Bloom, go ahead and click on the video above. It begins with the second verse of the song, in which Cyrus’ character sing “You go to movie premieres / Hear your songs on the radio.’ In between those two lines, she speaks the words, “Is that Orlando Bloom?”
Are Bloom and Miley Cyrus friends?
Let’s face it — many of these celebrities run in the same circles. Back in 2006, Bloom was a Hollywood star, and Cyrus was known exclusively for being Hannah Montana. But things are much different 13 years later, as Cyrus dominates the news cycle just as much (if not more) than the Carnival Row star.
There’s no evidence to suggest that the two are now friends. However, they do have one connection: Perry. The pop starlets have both spoken about the other, and maintain that they have been friends for quite some time (it’s even been rumored that Perry wrote her hit song, “I Kissed A Girl,” about a moment with Cyrus).
All three were together at the MusiCares Person of the Year ceremony honoring Dolly Parton in Feb. 2019, so we know Cyrus and Bloom are, at the very least, acquainted.
