Isaac is one of the biggest stars in the entertainment industry, with roles in blockbuster hits such as the most recent Star Wars trilogy as Poe Dameron, X-Men: Apocalypse, and Annihilation. Isaac is also a very well respected and talented actor, proven by his exceptional work in films like Inside Llewyn Davis, Ex Machina, and A Most Violent Year. This mix of widespread appeal and genuine talent has made Isaac one of the hottest stars in the movie business.

The Guatemalan born actor is also set to star in Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Dune. The science-fiction classic by Frank Herbert has been famously difficult to adapt for the screen, despite attempts by legendary filmmakers Alejandro Jodorowsky and David Lynch. The film has an impressive cast, as stars Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem will join Isaac in the highly anticipated film. This cast is basically a superhero team of actors, some of whom have major roles in superhero films, playing characters that have extraordinary abilities. This has led some to wonder if Isaac could step into the role of one particularly flexible superhero. That hero is Reed Richards, also known as Mr. Fantastic.

Who is Reed Richards?

Reed Richards is one of the members of The Fantastic Four, along with his wife the Invisible Woman Sue Storm, the Human Torch Johnny Storm, and Thing Ben Grimm. The team received their powers after their spacecraft collided with cosmic radiation, giving the four their powers. Richards and Sue Storm are brilliant scientists, which they use in conjunction with their impressive super-powers. Common villains the foursome fight include Silver Surfer, Galactus, and Dr. Doom. Previous incarnations of the Mr. Fantastic character in film form have included actors Ioan Gruffudd in the 2005 version and 2007, and Miles Teller in the 2015 reboot. The movies that these talented actors have been in have received a negative reception, both among fans and critics. Still, the iconic superhero team is a popular franchise, and it is rumored that the team may soon join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

What could Isaac bring to the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

The intricate dealings for various Marvel characters involve giant corporations like Disney, Sony, and Fox. This tangled web of intellectual property rights is confusing and includes the rights to popular Marvel characters like Spider-Man, the X-Men and, the Fantastic Four. This confusion has resulted in the various Fantastic Four films, all of which have been critically panned. Many fans of the characters hope that the team will be introduced into the continuity of the MCU, with Isaac as Mr. Fantastic. Fans believe that Isaac has the charisma needed to pull off the role, possibly with a bit more of an edge. Isaac’s roles seem to have a bit of darkness behind them, which could work well to differentiate his possible portrayal from other adaptations. With the possibility for the Fantastic Four and other not before seen Marvel characters to enter the MCU, it will be interesting to see which actors will take the coveted roles.
